I have not used any, but I have seen it in person. It looks like uncooked spaghetti.

How does it compare to rubber mulch?
Is it as heavy?

:waving: That thread was posted last month by me.:hammerhead:
Textraw is a very good product and does not look like anything like wet spagetti. I have a job putting some more out next week. The best thing to do is get a sample from them and see for yourself.

It is nothing like rubber mulch, I have looked into rubber much and decided that was something I did not want to mess with. The straw is not heavy like the rubber mulch. It stays in place very well during heavy rains. I have not had any "float off".

How is it in the fall when you are trying to get leaves out of it? It seems to me that it would be better for yards without a lot of trees?

And one other thing.... if a customer buys this for their yard aren't you cutting yourself out of profits down the road? I get good money to lay pinestraw each and every year.

No, there are not just a slew of your base customers going to buy this, it is very expensive. This is something I market to new landscape installs and brings a broader scope of customers in when they see the ads in the paper. I can offset any profits lost with new sales and new maintenance contracts from the new customers we pick up from Textraw sales. The market is so crowded around here it is good to have a "niche" to get new calls on. The yellow page section for landscape maintenance is huge and to have something to set you part helps.

I push it in yards with less trees. But, it stays in the beds pretty good while blowing against it. You are going to lose some though, if the customer is willing to go with the synthetic, they should have no problem adding a roll or two a year due to some getting removed with the leaves. If I had alot of leaves, and it got blew out each leaf season, I would still put it at my house every year just because of the color retaining aspect of it. I can not stand old grayed straw that is only a couple months old.

After looking I see the thread is a couple years old, from 2003.

With leaves the best thing to do is vac it out, you will lose some of the straw but not enough to really matter, if there is an abundant supply of leaves in the synthetic straw, I usually pitchfork, or rake it and flip it a few times and cover them up, the leaves will decompose adding nutrients to the soil and leving the feshly turned straw looking 100% fantastic
