I am in the process of planning for my friend (he is a certified welder) to build me a trailer. Looking at a 7X16 open for now. I can't decide whether or not I want to go with solid 2' sides or mesh 4' sides. I was wondering if any of you have trailers with high sides if you have any type of gate assist. I have seen them on trailers with lower sides, but not on trailers with the high sides. If you could, please post where you got them or if you made them yourself.

Thanks.

I have 4' sides with a spring assist gate. Works great.

would it be possible for you to post a pic? I have seen pics of trailers with shorter sides with gate assists, but none on the high-sided ones.

Dave80, There is a trailer company right down the road from me that has the best idea for gate assist I've seen. This guy is a structural engineer and he has designed a hydraulic actuator that is mounted under the trailer. This actuator uses a lever mechanism and it's great, just lift the gate with your toe and up it comes.
