Workmans Comp.

I want to know what the law is here in Florida for workmans comp. If I was to Hire somebody, do I need workmans comp for them. What about health insurance for them? I'm not ready to hire yet, but when it comes to the crunch I have no idea where to start to stay legal.

I believe it is 3 or more .... any construction & even 1 needs it .... coarse officer of corp or even a sole can "elect to be exempt"

FL rate is $1.29 per $10 dollars of payroll or 1.29%

We are due for a rate reduction starting today, not sure how much but anything will help. One thing to consider is that some commercial accounts require WC in order to bid some jobs so it may be worth considering even if its not a requirement.

I always say that it is better to be safe than sorry. But like Equipguy said, some properties will not even let you on their property without WC

Wouldn't 1.29% come out to 1.29 per 100 dollars?

Your right crawdad ... brain fart on my side ... the true rate in FL is 12.06 % x $100 .... so thats $12 on every $100 .... we must have the highest rate in the country ..... just 5 years ago it was like $ 5.40 per hundred .... last year it was $9.2 per $100

example should have been like .... if my last months payroll was say $10,000.00 .... than my WC cost would have been $1206.00

Wow, for a second there you got me pissed off when I read $1.29 per 100. Now that I read your second post I feel better about our rates in NJ. However I still don't understand why our rate for landscape work is higher than lawn maintenance.

It's higher because if you are rated for landscape, the insurance companies feel there is a greater risk for injury since you will be around equipment like backhoes, loaders, chainsaws, trenchers, stump grinders, etc., vs. just mowers. But to qualify for lawn maintenance WC rates, you must be able to justify the majority of your work is in that category. That's how we qualify since like 72% of our total revenue comes from lawn maintenance.

Hope that clears that up some from a fellow Joysee dude...
