Man flown to hospital after being impaled
A 22-year-old Washington man, Ryan Scholatto, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after his thigh was impaled by an 8-inch-long tine from an aerating lawn machine he was operating in Upper St. Clair Thursday afternoon.
Scholatto, an employee of TruGreen lawn services, was riding a tractor with an aerating attachment at 12:20 p.m. in the 2500 block of Heartwood Drive when the tractor rolled down an embankment, police said.
He was trapped between the rear tires and the attachment with one of the tines penetrating his upper leg.
Police, firefighters and ambulance attendants were able to disconnect the machine and unbolt the tine, which remained in his thigh.
Scholatto was flown to UMPC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, where he was listed in good condition Friday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
