View Full Version : Check your Clutch RETAINERS!!!

Almost had another tragedy. The Toro has an electric clutch and the thing is held by a retainer bar. 4 dollar part. If it breaks the clutch spins. The first spin tears the wires. the next spin is your pen and 200+ bucks to replace it.
I found mine when by luck a belt broke. I had to take it off to replace the belt.

Check yours.
This is the new one in foreground and old in the back. Check out the one below.

The piece that I replaced only had less than 200 hours on it. Toro has a BS way of attatching the retainer. It is bolted on by using one of the mounting bolts for the motor. I made my own hole about an inch away from the motor mounting bolt. Now there is no slop in the clutch. It is solid. Before that there was a slight play in the way the retainer held the clutch. I think that play was what made the wear.
