JD all the way - best service - most user friendly - most heavy duty mowers in the world. - have 5000 hrs on a 332 I bought in 1988 and it still is in A1 shape. performs like a champ - Paid 6200 for it then, so that means i have about $1.20 per hr invested in capital cost. Have 3 455's - 1400hrs - 1350hrs - 750 hrs - all run like a charm - maintainance is minimal - cheapest machines you can run

That mower is out!!! No I'm not talking about the Colt or Stallion, those are Derby mowers. I know it has to be out because I just saw a 20 hp 50" just like it, only it said Snapper on the side and was less the striping roller.

A NEW Toro 580-D

But...I'd want a cab with heat and a/c, 4 wheel drive, snow-thrower, and the light package. (about $100K)

But you know, for what that mower could earn, it's not a bad deal. And if I get that new job I'm bidding I might consider it myself.

This is how I talked myself into buying the last 580. You people on lawnsite. Someone said why don't we all just get the big Toro 580's and bla...bla..bla...
Sounded good to me so I did it!

My wife's sitting here at the table drinking coffee. If I turn around and say something like: "Lets mortgage the house (again) and buy a NEW mower. that if I'm going to make a living at this I need to show some commitment."
She's going to say something like "Yeah..I think you need to be committed"..
Well that's how the fights always start isn't it?

I think I'll just shut up and drink my coffee.. For now...

Well, I live in the land of 21" ers. So I'd still choose Honda - regardless of the price. They're just the best, most reliable, and easy to use. Important when you're mowing 25 lawns per day. The other commercial grade 21s don't handle that much use very well.

Didn't know that the Jacobsen had ben taken already, so how about the Howard Price 180, 16.5 Foot Cut, 17 acres per hour, Top transport spped of 22 mph, 4 cyl 76 hp Cummins, hydraulically assisted pedals and a Bostrom compresspor controlled air-ride suspension seat with lumbar adjustment, tilt backrest, and arm rests. And maybe an temperatured controlled Cab.....

Albemarle Lawn

All you guys replying: Toro 580-D or JD 1600 or Howard Price 180....

Do you mean mowers you want to own, or just drive?

I have a JD 1600. I'll be the first to admit its smoother than a 727 (not the JD 727...the Boeing)

It mows 120....yes 120 acres on a tank of fuel...

But...do you really want one of these maintenance hogs?

It takes 3 hours just to read the maint section of the operators manual.

23...count em....23 gallons of hydraulic fluid.

9 quarts of motor oil...

3 tubes of grease to hit all the fittings....

$350 to replace belts...

ditto the blades...hundreds....

Still interested?

Oh...did I mention it costs a mortgage (I know we are still talking free)

I've got a better idea.......How about a 5'4" blonde (34D-24-34) tan, blue eyes, thong bikini and platform heels that would push your old reel mower that you inherited from your granddaddy---while you sat in the a/c in the truck and just watched!!!!!!!!!!

Of course I could see them--every time she came back to the truck to get some water to wet herself down with..She'd only be about 4 to 5 feet away. Plus, I'd have to let her ride up front with me on the way to next job.

Well, I can't decide between either an eXmark Lazer Z EPS 72" 28 HP Kohler EFI or a Toro Z350 dedicated bagger mower.

I was thinking of the Exmark Lazer Z XP Diesel but I have tried it and I think it is too big, too loud, and nobody in my area uses them. I don't think that any of the dealers in VT have ever sold one, either.

Well, I thought about this one... and I don't know about you guys, but with FREE I would want to try something maybe out of the ordinary that I would be LESS likely to buy myself out of pocket.

Like a 72" ZTR, or a Flex-Deck style X595, or an outfront mower like a Grasshopper or walker, or anything with a 28EFI Kohler...

Or just a simple walkbehind or stand-on mower. I have diabetes. But I'd like to try one and if nothing else have it around for quick use. But I'm not likely to buy one only to find out I can actually use it very little.
