Is it me or is my old 6200 red max with 6 years on it run better than the new 7001?? are there any mods I can do to wake this thing up??? How do you remove the Spark arrestor??

Are we allowed to give that advice??

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve Are we talking about just how the engine runs I.E. idles etc or how it blows? Mine runs fine. I think if it blew any harder I couldn't hold on to it.:D

Not to take it off topic, but what is the difference between a 7000 and a 7001 (and don't anybody say "1" LOL!).
Aren't they the same size engines?

I think one has stricter emmisions for states like CA, although I am not sure which one is which.

My 7001 blows fine. If I point the exhaust tube at the ground it'll lift me off my feet. How hard do you want it to blow?

The 7001 is the new model for this year, replaces the 7000, I belive the only change is that it blow air someplace in the back, to keep you cool, Haven't noyice if it works feels the same that the older model.
It should have more power that the 6200 for sure, check with your dealer maybe is not set up correctly.

Actually the 7001 is 125cfm more than the 7000. The spark arrestor just pulls out. Also, you must let the motor break in some before its full potential is felt.

yea you are probably right on that one ...I will let it break in it is already running better. Still can not see how the arrestor comes out??? Oh well...Steve PS thanks for the info guys

Is that true hoss?
I really believed the 7000 was the same as the 70001 I'll have to do more research before buying anything from now on, well this time I got something better but who know next.

Thanks hoss

You need to check with your dealer. If your 7001 is running properly, you would be bragging about the extra power, and that is right out of the box.
The 7001 has the same engine as the 6200 as well as the 7000, but a lot more CFMs, (dramatic difference in blowing leaf power).
It also blows more air up the operator's back than previous models.
Due to changes in the volute (air chamber), it is also smoother handling.
It is available with the throttle control on the left or right side.

Check Russo's Power Equipment in Chicago, they are selling them for $439.00 all day long. This place is awesome for pricing and variety of equipment. I am going in to purchase either a Echo 650 for $399.00 or a 750 for $429.00 tomorrow.

Mine was $479.00 also.

Difference between the two are:

7001 Has the Air conditioned back pad
7001 Has thicker straps
7001 Has a better air filter
7001 Has more CFM

Mine is missing a bit at full throttle. Called my dealer today and he said try this: There are two gas lines running to the carb, yellow and black. Take the black one, cut it about 1/4 inch off of end going to carb., stick it back on. He has had to do this to a few he said, but not sure if it will cure the missing. Said to bring it in if it didn't.

Man........ There are a couple of local Redmax dealers around here. Two within 5 miles from my house. I went to the one dude and he thinks hes a big shot cuz hes the biggest snapper dealer around here. I felt he didnt take me serious im farely new to this lawn mowing stuff. Neway i went to the other redmax dealer on sat and he seemed nice and friendly. So after I have been checkin ebay daily for the last month i figured the best deal I can get is on ebay or spend about 75 more for one at the dealer. I just went to the dealer. I like quality service over price.

Steve,

I noticed the same thing. My 6800 blows the doors off my buddies 7000. Too bad I had a bad seal this spring and smoked her. I replaced it with the Ecco 650. I like it better than the 7000

hey steve, i've seen them for as little as 429$ for a 7001. the other place i checked was 439$. if you look at the exhaust port on the muffler, you should see a little screen in there. it just slips in place. take a pair of pliers and reach through the plastic guard and work it out, and then throw it in the lake. it'll work fine from then on. yes and let it break in some too. also make sure the cable is pulling the carb all the way open. the arrester in mione was slowing things down alot in just a month after i got it. i've always been an echo guy, and this was my first personal red max purchase, boy was i upset. then i fixed it and it's not so bad now. anyone want to buy this 4400 i got? it's about 6 mos. old

The 7000 actually is rated higher than the 7001. We have both, they seem the same. The only difference is the 7001 re-directs a little air thru the back pad for cooling so just a little less is available at the tube.

If your 7000 seems weak, the exhaust screen "spark-arrestor" is probably plugged. I have over a dozen Redmax machines, and that screen has always been the cause of lost power.

You can remove it and clean it. Its at the exhaust exit. I just remove mine and leave them off, have never had a problem. A little louder and a lot more power.

Nope, the 7001 is 125 cfm more than the 7000. The 7001 does redirect some air to the back and its a more comfortable to wear than the 7000. But neither of these takes away from the 125 cfm more.

I've heard those rumors and according to a local Stihl dealer it's true. I think it will have the 4-mix engine. The only concern I would have would be that the 4-mix engine has more moving parts than a 2-cycle. More things to go wrong.
