I have my own method of sharpening my blades for my Exmarks, but was wondering how everyone else sharpens there blades and how many people actually balance the blades.

How often do you all sharpen? I usually yank the blades of mower every day and make'em all shiny again.

the blade sharpening method that I have finally arrived at is:
(each morning) I lift up the front of my W/B with a chain fall, to easily get at the underside of the deck. Using a small rubber door stopper to keep the blade from turning, I then use a 5" angle grinder (24 grit discs) to sharpen each blade. The deck is plenty deep enough to get in there at the proper angle. Since it is done daily, there is not much material to remove, and it goes quickly. About once a week, I take the blades off for balancing.

Also, with the deck way up, it is easy to clean it up. This morning rountine takes about 20 minutes.

I use a roto zip with zipmate grinder.
I have learned to try to make blade
edge similar to new blade.I no longer
put a razors edge, as sometimes doesnt
last more than several hours.
Sharp but with a little body to the
edge. This cuts as well and last much
longer on my machines. Hope this is
helpful to some T M

Meant to mention. If you use rotozip
be sure to sharpen with the edge,
not into edge as with normal grinder.
It turns at 30.000 rpm and could
possibly hang the edge when turning
into it.Always wear safety glasses.

wyane thats a good idea but i yhink it may be more productive to have enough blades plus two sets.her's the way i'am thinking
1 on your way home stop by the local car wash and preasure wash the deck, and everything esle on the trailer may take
5 min. ( i own a preasure washer)
2 the idea of only removing the bolt once a week scares me,
that bolt could tighten up on you makingfor a bad morning and more likly to strip the head of it
3. hange blades every morning doing a swap ..should only take 7 mins or less.
4.spend 20 minutes once a week sharpening
5. you balance for accuracy your pretty good if you take the same ammount off each side each day ...that could add up to a bad deal by the end of the week.
on a five day work week
lets see 5 mins to clean all equipt on the trailer =25 min per week and more stuff cleaned
7 min to change blades.=35 min
20 min to sharpen and balance all blades standing up =20 min

this way you could save almost a half hour a week
just my thoughts kinda works for me
