I have the state master business license. How many of you obtain a license for each city that you work in, in addition to your state license. I recently ran for political office, the press got hold of info that I didn't have a license for one of the cities that I work in and made headlines of my omission. Just curious.
We obtain a lic. where they are needed.

Yard Perfect,
I've got my own construction business just west of you in Elma. It's kinda weird how it works around here when it comes to city licenses. When I work in Aberdeen and Hoquiam I have to have their license, yet Cosmopolis and Elma don't require one. Go Figure? I haven't done any work in Olympia other than to help a couple of friends out, so I'm not sure about licensing in your area. Come to think of it, I wonder if you'd need seperate licenses for Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater?
BTW - if you owned a snow plow, you probably could've made a little money today:laugh:

Only obtain the ones you need-no need to waste time and money on something you don't

To: DKINWA - technically all three of our cities require a license. Although I don't believe any one cares unless you become a public figure, that part of my life is over.

Each dam city gotta BUY a lisc. give them the money and there happy. I just sent one out today that requires 1-3-1 MIL and a 25K bond for just 1 city and thats only to MOW! If I want to do installs 100k bond. Ridiculous!

They don't require anything like that here, at least to maintain(mow), not to sure about installs. That's outrageous!!!!!!!!!

Thats why I love minnesota - It cost me 25 dollars for a basic license. No questions asked, a $25 check, and I was in business.

Olderthandirt,
Is that for city property?

With in the city limits, business conducted must pay city B&O Tax. I think you will find this in most jurisdictions, although most folks like us don't bother. I was just too public and got busted. No penalty, but the 1" headlines didn't help my run for City Council. I eventually lost by about 5%. So be it - I will learn to fly fish instead and greatly grow and expand my business

It is astounding to learn what hoops have to be jumped trough in different parts of the country!
Here, we have consolidated government where the whole county is the city. Our city is the largest one in the region. I only have to pay $45 for a "Public Service" license (the same for a street vendor). No State license. If I get an account across one of the surrounding county lines, which are all very close. I would have to get a license for that county.

All these licenses seem like a way for the local gov to bring in $$.
Since I don't do ferts, I don't need any license to do business. When I was buying my home, my mortgage company couldn't believe that I could do business without a license. At the time I was just a DBA and they wouldn't accept that. Had to make copies of all kinds of stuff just to prove I was in business and actually made $$.

We only have to have a county license here. I have one for three countys in case I get tired of the scenery in one. Twenty bucks a pop and you are up and going.

Yard Perfect, Here in Seattle I am under the same system. State master lic. and City of Seattle gets there share, 80 bucks per year! How bout them Hawks. (OUCH!) I can't get that last play of the game out of my head. There is always next year! We have about 5 inches of snow now, (1:30 p.m. Tue.) How is Olympia doing?

About 8 inches of snow today, not much yard work available to day unless one could do snow removal and I don't have equipment to do that. Snows once every 3 years or so.

MTD,
Here it is called an "occupational License" You could be selling widgets on the corner ,.. but you have to have a license from the city. No State license. Mine is called a "public Service" license. I just do lawn care, no ferts or pesticides or work over ten ft high.
And Yes,. they are all just a way for the city to get money.....
