Duuuude, we dont need no stinkin people from Alabama, Tennesee, Florida and Carolinas on this here thread, cause you named it Atlanta, GA!
We operate out of NE Atlanta...from N.Buckhead, Dunwoody in/out of the north loop through Tucker.
We have used flyers at first...and now have a yellow pages ad, listed as 'Smith Property Care'. We also have had recent success using direct mail post cards...these things are great!

Thanks for the tip, Cutters lawn Care, I have already placed a small 2 inch in my local Yellow pages, won't come out until end of March though.. I plan to placing ads in my Local newspaper and the shopper guides, my next question for you guys is what is the best timing to put these ads out.. should i wait for feb or march, when all of the competition does or do it now..the only problem I have with doing it now, is that it may not yield as many responses due to the timing..your feedback is appreciated guys,

I started my ads last year the first week in march. Not to many lco advertise in our local paper. About 4 did last year. I have read on here to advertise 8 weeks before the season starts.

What are you doing right now, save drinking beer and getting fat? Market now! You have time... Whatever your planning to do, do it now AND in March.
1. Many homeowners already know they want someone else.
2. Many, if not most LCO's have faded out by now...what an oppurtunity.
3. Were getting responses on cards that went out in late December.
4. Hit an area now, hit it again in the spring...this will speak volumes about persistance and that your a LCO focused on that area, your there to grow and stay ...blah,blah,blah

Yup, I have several that I could show you, but Im sorry I dont have a scanner. I do have a couple that were done in 'Word', is there a way to attach from that?
You can do search for some samples, mine aren't that different from some i've seen. Just try to keep it neat and relatively simple. I now use Kinko's and do my own. I have a guy that does Awesome design, LOGO's and websites and he is NOT expensive. Let me know if your interested...

Hello Again TotalCareSolutions, I am definetly interested..you can send them as word attachments to my email simply save the files which you already have, find the attachment button in your email account, this will bring up a browse screen which will allow you to get the file from wherever you saved it, C: drive, documents, etc... once the file is attached simply send it via email to my email address which is worldgiftsinternational@yahoo.com, I can make adjustments to it once I edit it.. also where do you find samples. like what search words or terms do you use for reference to the sample fliers, postacrds etc..thanks again Total

One business license from one city doesn't license you to do business in any and every city in GA ... you have to buy a license in each and every city that you do work in.

Endless Boundries, Mikeswag and anyone else from GA (and not located in S.C.) -
Our business license is from Dekalb County. We can do work anywhere in the state of GA as a licenced business of Dekalb County. There can be multiple cities in a county and it is not necessary to go to every city you enter and get a licence to conduct business.

Total Care,
So you're saying that you could roll on over here to Augusta, in city limits, and perform work based on the county license that you have? If that's so, I want to know the section of GA's code that allows that because it may benefit me, as well. I know I'm from SC, but perhaps you can pardon this post anyhow. ;)

CSRA,
I'm telling you what the County told me and I've never had to think twice about it. I can certainly say that it's not every City you enter. I'm confident I can do work in Roswell and towns these guys are talking about. Augusta? who knows...as far as GA code check it out, let me know...I think your much more interested than I am. Has this been an issue with anybody here locally?
Endless,
Just my .02...Think about trying to download a LOGO or some clip art and make your own at Kinkos. Otherwise you could go to a print shop. I have a guy, he's great, but not the cheapest. Let me know.

Everyone TotalCare is right about the GA licensce issue.. once you are licensed in one county, city or town/suburb of Georgia, you are licensed to do business in the entire state of Georgia. as for other states, I cannot say, one would have to check with their local state and or county license office..CSRA, all you have to do is check with Ga dept of revenue office in the augusta area, or your county office that handles the business licenses. they will be able to verify this. Mikeswag you can verify the license is good thru the whole state with the fulton county city hall office or the Atlanta, Ga dept of Revenue, total thanks for the info on Cowen hardware.. I do have another question for you guys, I am about to purchase either a 36" or 46 snapper walk-behind, which one do you think i should get.. many lco's says the 36" is good because it fits thru most people's gates, but the 48" will come more area in less time, looking for your feedbacks. thanks

Total Care,
do yourself a favor and go back to the very first post on this thread. Now consider what you just said. My posts were not designed, unlike yours, to create an argument but rather to ensure that everyone here is operating legally. The one license for the entire state sounded somewhat funny to me, so I said so. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I realize this post is probably in vain ... however, I still feel that your post was very poorly thought out.
TotalCareSolutions
01-16-2004, 08:55 PM
Jeff, OK I "did myself a favor" and saw where SIRC had also mentioned SC. Great God of wonders! Your right, that changes everything!
But alas, as I continued down through the thread I see TotalCareSolutions actually trying to help to varying degrees and accurately I might add. The only "help" I see you providing was to infer that I was simply and completely wrong in my direction regarding the license and state that one must get a license in every city they enter...is this your idea of well thought out.
I guess there is a lesson here for all of us, don't openly and directly state something that is not accurate and there probably won't be this type of confusion.
Keep your chin up, your posts are not in vain and I hasten to add that you do not need to try and bait me into responding. I somehow enjoy your arrogance and will grant you a place in Atlanta's forum.
SIRCAESAR

Hey Csra, I did not think that total was trying to be arrogant, by that last post. It sounded to me as if it were a motivator. I do understand your plight concerning the License..I would not have known either if I did not inquire about it sometime ago..in any event thats what we are here for to help us one another.. Our industry has lots to be learned. I am thankful to Sean Adams for creating it, and especially for the Forum we have right here in Atlanta..It has taken me a great deal of thinking, getting all of my efforts in place to do this. and you guys really motivate me every step of the way. I think everyone here has knowledge well worth listening to..Total and Csra I don't think any harm was meant from either of your initial comments, your reply comments however got a little steamy. Just a minor misunderstanding..

So sorry that I was arrogant in trying to help everyone operate legally. Obviously, GA & SC have different ideas of legality. So, I will join my other somewhat arrogant South Carolinians. Please, DO forgive me for venturing to give my innacurrate and totally thoughtless, therefore selfish posts.
SIRCAESAR

Csra, again the initial post regarding the license, was not to put down or negate what you had to say, but merely to enlighten you as to the facts regarding the GA License.. their is no need to feel like what you have said was an illegitimate question. it was a very good one, and we Answered it. again I cannot speak for South Carolina, because I do not live their, so the laws regarding their License could be different and you will have to inquire within that state should you choose to do business their. Seriously their is no need to feel like you have been offended it was a great question, we answered it.. lets move on to some other topics..

Hey Jeffrey,
Your tone has been sarcastic from the beginning. You've added nothing but confusion to the thread. You were not trying to help anyone only disagree with somehting you could not wrap your mind around. It's good to see your getting the hint and leaving, I look forward to meeting up with you again in the other forums. Perhaps we can have a more civil discussion...

Hey guys, I kid you not, but going door to door is the best way.. not to mention its free.. especially if your trying to target a particular subdivision..imagine getting at least 10 people on the block.. this will cut down on your commute, save you in gas, and up your total profits.. definetly something to think about.. In my area I have already placed my small 2 inch yellow page ad, our conyers book won't be out until end of march though.. I am also going to put ads in the local paper and shopper advertisers.. this way i have every major advertising paper covered..I then will do my fliers and some door to door..I want to get these two subdivisions right next to me including my subdivision..

SIRC,
I was just in Conyers Sunday. Cowan Ace Hardware has a billboard right off I-20 W advertising commercial landscape equipt.
Door to door is excellent if you have the confidence and the time. Anyone really serious about growing quickly could budget time to do this. Go to the door and simply state that you wanted to make available your business card. If they are receptive go ahead and be more of a salesman. I don't think people mind so much a lawnman coming to their door to personally handing them a business card. I would even say people respond better to that than something left on the mailbox. It's not like your selling vacuums or insurance, that is probably a little more annoying. Hats off to you SIRC. Remember though, that time going door to door could be spent making money if you had used a different method and gotten some work. As far as the attach., guess it aint happenin...
Scaper, our mowers are tip-top...oil wise. We ran over a commercial Honda late autumn, but I have even pieced that back together. Runs fine now.
Maals, your area is still booming with growth, are you planning to target alot of cluster homes and Bermuda grass? If so, what type of mower were you planning?

Total we just missed each other, I was in Cowen for the first time Yesterday (01-19), I did not know it was right their all that time.. I am always on that access road and drove by it a million times.. In any event, they have an Exmark metro walkbehind 36" that I want. the guy says they will be doing a demo and sale in my area on feb 11, the price will come from I think $3000 to $2199, the only thing is it has a fixed deck, I also looked at the toro and exmark 48" their both $3499 with floating decks, the guy told me Toro bought out exmark, which is why the machines look totally identical..the 36" floating is only $200 less at $3299, I asked the guy the major difference between the fixed and floating decks. he said on hills the floating deck would not rub, versus the fix rubbing and messing up the caster wheels..unless I adjust something else he said. What do you think, should I save the $1000 and go with the exmark 36" fixed, or is it worth it to pay the extra $1000 and get the floating deck?
TotalCareSolutions
01-20-2004, 11:39 PM
The 48" is a better primary machine. It is larger, has more HP and greater lift. It has 3 blades vs. 2. It will do a better job quicker, but it will not fit through gates.
We have a metro. Take a look at the hydro drive Viking. Using a WalkBehind as a primary mower, I would seriously consider a hydro drive machine, then if you grow and get a ZTR, you will have an excellent backyard and secondary hydro drive WB. This is all if you can afford it right now...
