View Full Version : Suppose you win the lottery...

My bored young mind just came up with a random thought. Suppose you won at least a million in the lottery, and had all of the money to spend it on anything you want that would be considered a business expense. What would you get?

10 rental houses

I would sell my lawn accounts and start a more profitable business....perhaps building houses. Of course I would pay off the lazer and keep it :)

Only a mil? Wouldn't spend it.Retirement account. A mil don't go too far these days.

I think of this alot

A: Get top of the line Excavating equiptment and start excavating. I would love to do it expecally if I had really good equiptment.

B: Put a down payment on a nice golf course. 1 mill isn't enough to pay it off but with that much down it without any stress it wouldn't be to hard to get it going.

C: Finish college, invest in really nice landscaping equiptment, Trucks, plows maybe a small excavator and a power box.

The golf course is my favorit, my life long goal is to own a golf course.

10 rental houses, jeeze your not finding anything under 300k in my area for a rental house. I'd get 3 houses and a place to keep my trailer so it gets the hell out of my back yard.

It's funny you posted that question. I just finished reading where an NC couple hit the SC Lottery for half of the jackpot which was $110.75 million!!!!

Just before coming on here I sat around in a daze for a few minutes just trying to comprehend how much money that is and what I would really do if I had won that much money......

TheKingNJ

yes I would really consider Real estate. It is a way to make money without much work. Thats what I get for liveing in New Jersey though, houses are so overpiced. I wish I had a picture of my neighbor's house to post and say the number he sold it for, holy molie!

Seriously though... in today's world, a million , then tax that mill ... not enough to retire with... BUT, if you invest those hundreds of thousands wisely you could have a sweet early retirement.

Gosh, 500k hmm lets see, stick it all into a savings account. At 1% interest, which is what most of them are at, thats 5k a month. Hmm i could live off of that for the rest of my life!! :D Around here that kinda money is good, 60k a year for just sitting on my ass till i die! Yummy where can iget some?

that would be $5000 a year, not $5000 a month. apr=annual percentage rate. Other than that, its a great plan.

After the dust settled from the big party I would buy land. I would plant christmas trees for the future investment for my son. I'm not one to sit back and retire so I would probably still work 3-4 days a week to stay in shape. A mill doesn't go very far these days but it would be enough not to work for the f%^&*# post office any more

It doesn't work like that. It's 1% per annum. That means year. If savings accounts paid that kind of return the stock market would be crushed in a day.

Friend of mine won $110 mil last February (Ron Eaton). He called me once after the win to tell me the net was only 19 mil after taxes and a split with another guy who had the same numbers. He moved changed his phone number and have not heard from him since. I used to make fun of him for playing Power Ball.

my #1 investment would be real estate-most likley rental houses.

i would def. sock a good chunk of that in the bank and save and let it grow.

spend 1,000.00 to 3,000.00 in more loto tickets.

My wife and I were just talking about this. I'd quit my day job and just cut grass. She said, " I'd like you to quit your day job, right now!"

I took a real estate class once, and the teacher ask us what we would but with a million dollars. Most people said a million dollar house. He said that he would buy ten- million dollar houses. You don't need a million dollars to buy a million dollar house. post 3425

10% to the MAN, pay off the debt, fix the dent in the truck, pour a driveway, build a decent shop and go to work. The rest would have to go in the bank or we'd wind up like so many that win and are broke within 5 years. If I ever were to get it I would spend it more wisely than I have in the past.

$600,000.00
the wife is going to law school next fall anyway, so I would pay for it in cash and let someone else have her grants.
$500,000.00
buy a nice house ($200,000.00 buys alot here)
$300,000.00
buy all new truck,trailer,equiptment
$200,000.00
then i still have enough to pay for my daughters education with no worrys.

plus the wife will be making a chunk when she becomes an attorney anyway

dreaming away,
chuck

I'd get 19 rental houses at $50K each (decent houses can be had at this price in my area. Then I would pay off all my debt with the remaining $50K.

For strictly Lawn and Snow business, 1 million would go a long way, but I'd start with a 1 ton or a Cab-over with a dumper and giant v-blade and a medium sized ENCLOSED trailer. A bigger shop. A well furnished office. I'd also buy a bobcat skid steer with all the attachments.

Then if i like where Im at build a 100 story hotel and live on the top floor and enjoy the finer things in life oh yeah the hotel would be called daydreamers paradise so if any of you guys make it to the caribean look up daydreamers paradise hotelgo to the top floor and if u found me then you will know I hit the big 1..

If I won. Landscaping would be over for me. So would mowing. Take a month vacation with the family and go to work with my Dad like old times.

Probably, do this anyway; even without the million. Tired of this business and the fight with cash flow, weather, and economy.
