I was wondering the same thing about getting the leaves out of the trailer. I see guys all the time with trailers that aren't dumps. I just use the back of my truck for know and dump from my z into it. A little labor but will be getting one like that soon on a 6x12 dump. Not sure where to mount it yet ? I can't imagine how heavy those leaves are in there and trying to move them with all the dust. No thanks.

Hey blades of steel, what kind of grass it that in your picture. I have random spots of that all over my area. I asked my boss at my golf course and he said it was a southern grass that goes dormit in the cold and turns bright green when it warms up. Well it looks like crap before it turns gress because it stays brown untill may and goes back in october. It is a pain.

Blades of steel....... I like your trailer mate! very nice setup.

Blades of Steel
01-19-2004, 07:43 PM
Okay,

1. Leaf trailer: Getting the leaves out is not problem. I have a pallet at the nose of the trailer with a 25 ft cable attached to it. I let the gate down, hook it to the tractor at the mulch pit he pulls on it and it comes out like a loaf of bread. Takes about 5 minute from the time i pay till the time I leave.

2. Lawn: Zoysia 100% Best grass around. Doesn't stripe very well but extremely weed resistant.

3. Debris Loader: Having it over the nose is good for me. I have the hose on the passenger side so it is easy to get to. However, I am designing a new platform that spins and then locks into place so that i can use it from both sides. Should be ready for next season.

pinnacle,

Thanks. A ton of work has gone into both of my trailers, a few bugs but other than that they are exactly what I wanted. The yellow trailer I designed and sent the specs to Big Tex and had it built. I built the leaf trailer out of a 5x12ft Big Tex I already had, a few mods and it was ready to go.

Blades of Steel,
I'd be happy with the yellow big tex too! (very eye catching) I need a trailer like that but the side gate would need to be around 44'' wide. Seing that exceptional trailer is giving a bit of an urge to go trailer shoping! I Would need to get a trailer like that made custom here. The trailer makers in Aus don't make anything like it. I'd love to get the Specs/plans for that trailer of yours!

Hey Hoss,

I like that dove tail on your first trailer. Do you hang it up much on low drive exits or entrances? I think that would be the only modification i would consider on my next trailer. It makes loading the mowers easier and you don't hang the deck up as much. My only fear is scraping it on these steap drives around town..

Occassionally it scraps but not much. I need to put a drop hitch on the new F250 and it will not be as low. It makes a huge difference loading the mowers. It never hangs.

THeKing NJ..... New Jersey has alot of Zoysia grass in it... .. It spreads, its drought tolerant. goes dormant and perks up as soon as it gets water.. I think it was used alot durning the 50's and 60's by builders in establishing new lawns. Now its' just everywhere in patches.. It's like ivy , very invasive....Its' annoying when its' mixed in lawns and you have these nice lush lawns with brown patches here and there....

Tim I debated getting a dovetail when I bought my last trailer. I saved $140 by not getting and think it was a costly mistake. I don't have a problem deck scraping, but I have a hard time getting the powerseeder to load without the discs hitting the ground first....I have to get a running start and push hard until the drive tires grab hold of the gate. Plus, at times I could use the extra 20" or so. Those of you in the market for a new trailer, consider the advantages of getting a dove tail.

The scag has been an awesome machine, very few problems at all, it will cut tall bahia grass like it is nobody's business, but the super z is awesome, it cuts good, handles good and rides like a dream, so my choice as of now will have to be the super z.

It looks like there's extra hydraulics on top of the main loader ones, why?

coopers
02-01-2004, 04:07 AM
Badranman, if you're talking about the second hyd. near the main right loader arm, that is to keep the bucket level while lowering and raising the loader arm. That way you don't have to worry about spilling your load onto yourself. This machine is I belive, a '68 or 69. It's a case 580B. B models all look very different. Not like all the C's, D's etc. where all the C's look the same, all the D's look the same (besides the stnd. hoe and x-hoes) etc. When someone says B, they have to be specific because there were many years before they came out with the C, which they all look the same. As far as I've seen, the C's D's and maybe the E's don't have this self-leveling hyd.

In the first month of ownership it went back 7 times. After 124 miles the egr valve failed (build date was early spring) the turbo sensors went twice the icp valve, tranny trouble paint bubbling. It was an all round lemon. Many 6.0s psd were troublesome.

dlandscaping,

Maybe somebody should inform you that usually if you buy something that just came out for the first year it will probably have some problems. The 6.0 is the best diesel on the market and it whoops chevys duramax and dodges cummins. There is no match for any ford truck and obviously you know that if you bought another one. Don't dislike the 6.0 there are always the lemons. Besides all the stuff was under warranty whats the big deal?????

"The 6.0 is the best diesel on the market and it whoops chevrolet duramax and dodges cummins."

Thats a matter of opinion. As far as speed, maybe. From what I hear Chevrolet/GMC has updated the Duramax and right now it's the king. However for pure lugging power and overall durability I wouldn't trade my Cummins for either.

If you'd seen how pumped and proud dlandscaping was when he first got that truck, then you'd know why he shied away from another 6.0.

Whats the old saying... "Once bitten, twice shy."

If you knew the story and months of fighting Ford you would understand why the 6.0 is not for me at least right now. No matter what someone says there will still be some bugs. I was told with the late build date all the problems were solved -(march 03) wrong again. There were lies by Ford they sold a defective product and then tried to discourage me from buybacks. Whats wrong if it is under warranty? If you buy a $40+k truck and it breaks down the first day on the job after 124 miles and you were left stranded for 4 hrs and then told to walk home from a dealer 45 min from your house, you should be pissed i sure as hell was.

thfireman

I would blame the dealer more than the truck. Thats BS and should never happen. I have had super service from my dealer but no problems with the truck what so ever. Sorry for your problems.:(

dlandscaping,

Sorry you have such shitty luck with your dealer i hope you didn't buy your new truck from the same dealer because, what you just said is disturbing and it would be dumb to buy another vehicle from them again. I wouldn't give them the time of day and i would let everyone know it......That doesn't seem right to me that a car dealership would tell you to walk home.....i'm not sure about that one but if it happened to me then i would call the Better business Bureau and i would call FORD and i would Call the area news station and let them know and i would put it in the local paper....come on man they wanna play games you gotta play them back.....good luck

Why where you fighting Ford...it had to be all warranteed

My dad just got a 2004 Chev duramax and was talking all big **** so i got my buddies ford 6.0 and we hooked up bumper to bumper .....i pulled him in a complete circle in the P&C Parking lot

The chevy is no match....unless your old and want a powerful cadillac but if you want a real truck the 6.0 is it. As far as cummins well i believe that ford will beat it but hey if you wanna meet halfway we can hook up and i will pull you around a parking lot too.

In my state there is a lemon law. A company has 3 chances to fix the same issue and then one last try for up to 40 days or something. They tried 7 times, brought the field rep in diff mechanics and all no luck. Ford is a crap company. Their diesel hotline consists of a woman who speaks little english. She reads off a card. when i asked for her name she told me "Ford is aware of problems with the 6.0 psd and is working on a solution soon." This is what cheap labor buys.

JB1LNDSCPR

If Ford Is a "Crap Company" buy something else instead of another ford then....??????????????

You Must not have pkayed your cards right no dealer around my area would even think about doing that kind of stuff.....i would have had another new truck or else it would have been 50 feet in there show room.....

Oh-o... now we are talking BIG stuff. But I would have to see that to believe it, so how about some pics?

I don't own a diesel but here is what i have observed from driving them and talking to people that do own them.

Dodge, great motor, lots of low end power but the trans are crap

Ford. Great motor, good manual trans but the autos seem to really make them drag.

Chevy, great motor lots of torque, and the Alison trans are aw-some, but they are still new and have some bugs to work out.
I think if you put a 6spd behind a Durmax it would out-pull a ford.
I saw a pic. in Motortrend of a chevy pulling a 45ft motor-home!

If i was to go buy one I think my first choice would be the chevy, because my family owns about 20 of them and they are all problem free and very dependable, also they seem to be quieter.

I actually work for a Ford dealer in VA as a truck service advisor
for the last three years. The Ford rep and dealership will bend over for most 6.0 ps customers that have had a fair amount of problems or ongoing problems. I have a customer that has a 03
6.0L that came in with 6 items wrong with his truck and was regretting getting rid of his 00 7.3L We got the truck fixed in two
days, cleaned up for him and I got with my manager and we hooked him up with a 6 year 75,000 mile premium care warranty
at no charge. Which of course he was extreamly happy about. He has always been pretty decent to deal with when it came to both trucks and we wanted him to be able to say great things about the truck, Ford and the dealership, that is why he got hooked up. I guess what I am trying to get accrossed is it
all depends on the dealer that you buy from and go back to and the technician that is working on the truck also, if he aint trained
well then you can really be screwed.

Just tellin ya what I have know from the dealership perspective
Good luck with all those 6.0's

dlandscaping,

I can tell you that if it was you that called into the Ford diesel
hotline, then yes you were probably talking to a lady that just
writes notes in the computer for Ford to review put into your
customer file. The diesel techs at the dealers get to talk to some very trained guys on the other end of the phone which are usually very helpfull. Like I said already if the technician is not trained on working on this engine then you might as well have a
guy that just does services all day long trying to fix your diesel.

Actually, the PSD is the worst on the market right now.

Friend just read recently in Popular Mechanics that the new Cummins has 600 lbs/ft. Torque. Confirmed that at the auto show.

Also at the auto-show we saw the new duramax is 590 lbs/ft. torque.

PSD only has 560...

Todd

EDIT: In my opinion, the cummins diesel is the best out there. More torque and less moving parts (6-cylinder) make it a much better diesel than the PSD. I want to see CAT or Detroit start getting their diesels into some of these trucks :D

The duramax/allison tranny setup in GM isnt bad either, but chevy trucks are too ugly for words right now. What ever happened to the 2001/2002 2500 HD look? Best looking truck I've ever seen.

Lawnkid, Look at the Summit by Pace. It's a cargo sport but with a landscapers package on it. Treated floor-3/4 ply on top of the 3/8 on the bottom of the wall so no punch through- 2 top vents- flow through vents-Heavy, extended tongue.drop legs in back and tail gate. As a package it's cheaper than getting all that stuff extra. Got mine with 6" extra height, no more headaches.

Matt, its a 12' bed. Its a bit smaller than your grain truck (the bed is) but the truck is as maneuverable as a one ton long wheelbase which is pretty handy in a tight spot, and this would be better for hauling aggregates I think anyway. its 7' wide, 12' long and 42" tall. I thought of extending the sides a few feet but I think I might run into height restrictions. I may still do it though LOL.... The areas it will be used to vac leaves in have low limbs and such when you get into people's driveways (which you have to do out there) so we'll have to see how it all works out.

My bumper is crooked on the silver truck. Well the ends of it are nosed down a little.... congrats on the new truck, post pics for us  got the 6.0 gas?
