I have been doing all by copper connections soldered. Some guys have told me that compression T's work really well and are quicker on labor.
Does anyone oppose? If not what type are you using that is reliable.

If it gets bigger then 2" go with silver solder. Once you get over 2" it can be hard to do it with regular solder. My 2 cents

Dido on all the above. It all depends on the job application and rules of engineering.

The state and local plumbing code would likely have a lot to say about this.

I would only go with soldering. I've been to a few homes where there was already a compression coupler. If I was repairing the copper, I would take out the compression fitting and repair it correctly.

Inside, or outside above ground, only soldered copper fittings. Outside below grade we prefer Hammer Flare type fittings, harder to install but definitly the most reliable.
If you use compression fittings below grade be sure to get those that have locks/clamps to keep the fitting from pulling apart or moving on you.
