This months Turf mag has a AD for a Isuzu with a chevy gas v-8 and 4 speed auto with a 12" rack body for $20k.

With a custom made handy ramp endgate and some mods to the body I could leave my trailer home.

Any owners of these Isuzu cabovers please respond.

Hey Lawrence: Where's the dealer? I'm interested since I have been considering a Bering Truck or SuperLandscape Truck.

The phone number is 800-395-0002 or

email showcasecv@yahoo.com

That is a lot of "real" truck for 20k.

They have 5.13 rear axle ratios.

Did it spec load or towing capacity?

My friend has one in the form of a superlawn truck and one like the one shown, but i think he has a longer bed. Driven both of them, they are great. Tight turning radius, you can see everything and they are nice to drive overall. Seems to me to be better than a regular p/u style stake body.

Bering truck also has a deal at $399.00 a month lease fully loaded with 16 foot landscape body. Isuzu and the G.M are very nice also but topping the list to us is the mitsubishi for it has 4WD system, But they are all very nice includine http://www.superlawntrucks.com

Monroe Truck outfitters here in Michigan make a mowing bed for these trucks. It will be my next mowing truck when I get rid of the enclosed trailer

In the October issue of Lawn & Landscape there is an add for the Isuzu NPR landscape trucks. You can do a 4 yr lease on the 2001 diesel, auto, air, am/fm, 16' landscape body for $399.51 per month. You can lease the 2001 gas burner, same specs, for $347.90 per month. I sure wish i had seen this before leasing my Dodge. I could back the whole rig in the shop, not worry about a trailer, get better mileage probably, and turn the thing in after I wear it out. The gas model they advertise has a free 4yr 75,000 mile warranty. I know a guy here that runs one and he loves his. The add contains an e-mail address for the salesman I guess, chrisfountain@mindspring.com. Maybe I'll e-mail him and get some info in the mail.

He also does the http://www.superlawntrucks.com I personally will be looking into the Mitsubishi Fuso model for it has 4wd and can put a 9foot V-Plow on it with a 14 or 16 foot landscape body.

Stone-my best friend works at a GMC MD truck/Peterbuilt dealer in the summers,he says that the cab-overs are good trucks-but they dont stop worth a you-know what. They have a dual caliper brake set up on the front-that is very troublesome and even when new-these trucks do not stop quick enough at max GVWR.Is this one a 14,500GVWR?I think the new ones have a better system on them-it looks like a nice rig for lawns and fertilizing.

I just put a deposit on a 99 left over Mitsubishi 108 WB,4 cly diesel, with auto, 13,500GVW,cab and chassie,$21,800. Three year 300,000 mile warnetee .The 2001's are $26,660 and the only difference is the new ones have anti locking brakes and electric windows and door locks and the autos have 10 more horse power.

The Mitsubishi 4x4's have a step in the frame to accomidate the transfer case behind the cab. With a standard body the deck floor is about 5' above the ground. The dealer had one with a 10' mason dump with a piggy back unit behind the cab over the setp area.It looked good but the body was still too high and you would need a step ladder to reach the upper half of the storage unit. I was refered to a custom welder that makes bodies and he showed me a 11'platform dump he did on the 4x4 by mounting the hoist in the truck frame and ended up with 46" deck higth.Looked good, the owner loves it.

We just built a rig out of a used cabover with 117,000 miles. I had the bed custom welded. when done I had only 12,000 in the truck. runs great every day. I'll never go back to a truck&trailer

I was lookin into one of those GM cube vans not to long ago, I could of easlily put my machines and tools in that guy and get rid of any idea of an enclosed trailer. The one I was looking at was a dually rear end and had an access door between the cube and the drivers compartment, it had a diesel engine. Some of the larger LCO's around here have a lot of those mitsubushi/fuso trucks....... I don't quite have the cash for one of those.:(

Just bought a 90 izuzu cabover. Auto, Disel 13,500 GVW and only 80,000 miles. the truck has a body like the comander body, only it has a lower area with a ramp for a push spreader on the back to (all inclosed) also came with a 300 gallon tank, hose reel coupple smaller 30 galon tanks and a pump for **$3700** also it was stored inside most of its life so its in perfict shape. have 2000 miles on it and i like, and trust it more than my 99 3/4 ton chevy. as some have said you do have to give yourself room to stop when you get 300 gallions of water plus a palet of fert and a permagreen on it, but use you exhaust brake and it dose fine

Do most of you folks looking at these LC trucks live in the south? I just wonder how you can take no grass, or do you have some way to take grass that I am not understanding. I would love to not have to drag a trailer, but where I work, you have to take some grass, and with all the rain and growth I seem to have no choice.

we have been pleased with our 3 isuzu rigs. we have 2 super lawn trucks and one chemical route boxvan. the mileage is great, and we have no problem stopping our fully loaded 16 and 18 footers. in the ozark mountains that's good enough. the advertising on the side has convinced me the value of the box far outweghs the cost savings of the flatbed/ramp version. you always get another lawn on whatever street you are on. the mileage is decent, the diesels get 14-18 in the hills, and I have heard they get 20 in flat country. the power could be more, but again, probably adequate for flat country. get the biggest rig you can afford. my bro got a flatbed with 18 foot flat with 4 foot dovetail, 6 foot toolboxes on both sides, 24"fold down sides, diesel with dual tanks, racks, boxes, power windows etc. he got it from chris fountain in atlanta like the ad in pro. he went wiht the nqr and wishes he had another 2-4 feet of flat and had gotten the frr with the ext. cab. it wouldv'e been another 6 grand, but this truck will run until you die. it literally will go 250,000 miles in the city with minimal problems. ask any furniture dealer or any one who has owned one for ten years. they don;t break. at 15000 miles per year, we expect ours to last 20 years. seriously. Hey Shady, I'm in the same boat! I was looking at the superlawn trucks but they just don't work for me. We bag everything in Scottsdale, AZ (high end snooters, you know). It's a great setup but I have to have a dump on my Isuzu for all the trimming and grass we haul every day. We do haul only enclosed trailers to keep them out of the hot sun, elements, and people with heavy hands that like my top of the line equipment.

If someone can figure out how to not haul a trailer and be able to dump trimming and clippings, LET ME KNOW, PLEASE!
