Hey there everyone,
I was just curious to see how much you guys spent on your first truck for your LCO?

I mean, the very first, not the first one you liked!

I am looking to get a truck to better handle the workload this year, and am out to the market. I know none of what you have will affect my decision, but I am curious to see where everyone started.
This could be fun, so....

If you have a picture, and some info on your first truck (car:o ) put it up here.

Thanks for the input guys!

I spent $30,000 on my first truck. It was a 2000 f0250 ext cab. I thought that was alot for a truck.....my current truck was $40,000 :o

I don't know if my first truck can be considered my first "lawn" truck or not. Business wasn't really official at the time, but it hauled around a 6x12 trailer for a few months.

$3,500 for the old '89 Silverado C1500 4.3L auto

The first "official" lawn truck I guess is my current one.

$10,000 1995 Chevy K2500HD with dump/plow.

1st 86 ford e350 van............ $1200
2nd 86 chevy 30 Box truck....$1000 ( JUNK JUNK JUNK)
3rd 89 ford f 150 pick up........$500 ( awesome , miss it)
4th '86 f250 pick up........$2500 (useing it now)
5th '84 dodge 350 dump truck w/ plow ...$3000 (just bought, love it so far, can't wait for the season to start!!)

Are you pulling a trailer, or putting your equipment in your truck? That makes a difference. If your putting it inside your truck, a van is excellent. as a matter of fact, my first van above i sold to a family member 6 years ago, i'm debating buying it back from him soon.
I guess if you're alittle handy with the wrenches, you don't have to spen as much on a truck. I could never calculate the money I've saved turning wrenches myself.

Bill,
Must have been a popular color that year, Mine even had the same rust trim. But they were built like a tank and weighed as much too.

1990 Ford F250 Custom, 351W EFI, 5 spd ZF, 3.55 gears 2wd, long bed with liner, 550 air, standard cab vinyl interior (only option sliding rear window I think) didn’t have the chrome wheels & light covers when I got it or the exhaust, cd player etc. I paid $2800 I think I have only bout $3500 into it at this point. First vehicle, paid for in cash at time of purchase, looks good sounds good I like it a lot :) does everything I need at this point. I can even get decent mileage with it if I keep my foot out of it about 13 mpg LOL. Worst: 10, best: 13.5 (average about 11-12 usually) :p

Well my first truck that i bought that I actually used to pull a 6x12' trailer, with a Scag Turf Tiger and a Scag WB on it was a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0L Automatic for $11,700 with 64,000miles on it, kept it till 94,000 when i bought a 00 F150 V8 5.4L. Thing pulled the trailer well, but it was showing how small it was compared to the trailer load.
Last year also bought my work truck from another landscaper for $14,500, '99 GMC 3500HD Dump bed, V8 454, gas hog but it gets the job done, until i can afford a Diesel F450:D

We did a frame swap because the old frame developed a problem when my brother let one of his friends work for him that guy did a side job and had 2 yards of gravel put in it cracked the frame most of the way through only cost us 1200 to swap it and now it's a mean little truck sits 3 inches higher now.I just have to finish the bodywork little rust on the box

I bought my first truck from the Chevy Dealership where I was a salesman at. I was 18 years old and bought a new 2001 1500 4x4. Spent $35,000 all together with wheels and all the other BS.
Miss those car selling days sometimes, but cant beat being your own boss!

Engine went up, but I bought a 74 Nova w/ a 350 for $100, put another $150 in some other parts while doing the transplant. W/ that 350 it ran perfect until I sold it a few months ago

Now I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4x4

About $6500 for a new 1985 Ford Ranger p/u, 2wd, 2.0l engine, absolutely stripped (even down to the AM only radio). All I ever did to it was put on stiff gas shocks and extra springs on the rear to overload it easier. Wish I'd never sold that truck (sold it for the down payment on a dump truck). The guy that bought it said it was one of the best trucks he'd ever owned.

This may sound odd, but when I started I simply didn't have the cash for a decent used truck.
