Hey all of you that buy mulch wholesale, how much space will I need for a truck load of between 70 & 80 yds???? Looking to build a barrier with those large cement blocks and was wondering approx. how much space I will need for the average load.
We don't keep our mulch in a bin ... other products yes. Those large "lego blocks" dont come cheap and the bin would be to huge for us. Our loads come in at 150 cubic yards per time. I couldn't tell you off hand how big the pile is. guestamate would be ....30 by 20 and 15 ft high.

i would say like kris that you could use 30x20....but you could get away with a back and 15' sides. The sides aren't quite as important as the back unless you are trying to sperate different kinds of material.

Yeah I was planning on only a backing, just need an idea of how much space the mulch will take up. Thanks for the info!!!!

We get 100 yards of mulch at a time on a walking floor semi-trailer. It will be over 1.5 times as wide as the trailer once it gets out, and just as long as the trailer was.
So, if the mulch comes on a 50' trailer that is 8' wide, you are probably looking at a pile that is every bit of 15' wide, and at least 50' long. Highest point is usually around 12' high, maybe more, I haven't paid that much attention.
Kris- are you sure you are getting 150 yards per load? Much over 100 around here and the semi is WAY over wieght limits....
The most I've heard of (straight out of the drivers mouth) is 120 yards/load, that they had to PACK the first 100 yards, then go drive around for a while to let it settle, then stick more in the trailer. And hope the DOT didn't pull them over!
Maybe you are getting 2 loads at a time?
20x 30, or even 30x 30 just sounds small to me, but our supplier probably has a different off-load setup than yours....
Dan ... I was guessing at the size of the pile in the yard... if I remember on monday I'll pace it off ... I'm sure these loads arent over weight. You've got me wondering if maybe Im mistaken now ..these loads also have walking floors ..perhaps they are longer trailers?
LB you may want to check out the price for those concrete lego blocks...like I said...they dont come cheap.

Thanks Kris I'll check them out.
80 (yds.) x 27 (cu.ft./yd.)= 2,160 cu. ft.
18'x20'x6' deep = 2,160 cu. ft.

we built a bin to hold our mulch that was 20 x 20 and the walls are 4 feet tall on three sides. our bulk deliveries are 75 - 80 yards and they usually don't touch on the sides and spill out the front of the bin by about 5-10 feet. if i had to do it again i would go longer and less wide. probably 25-30 long by 12-15 wide with 4 foot tall walls. hope this helps.
