I'm sure its not common but what experiences have any of you had with using pull type mowers (with their own engines) like Swisher, Acrease and others. What did you like/dis-like about them, and advise for me who is considering using one or two of them. I just do bigger lawns and only one of them is too small to consider using a pull type mower.

Hey Tinkerer, I use the Acerease (sp) rough cut in my line of work. So far it has worked great. Has the 20 hp horozontal v-twin Kohler. I mow in extreme conditions (VERY THICK). Keep it well greased and no problems.
I am looking at putting the Meg Mow's on this year. Like you, I only do large acerage mowing.

Do you find it hard getting big lawns? Maybe there are more of them in Texas. I used to do all sizes of lawns but it seemed like a blur doing 8 lawns in a day. Plus I don't have the greatest back and knees so I gotta sit while I mow.

I don't do "lawns" Tink, I do acerage. Most of this acerage is in extremely hostile areas (DEEP mud, hard to access areas). These areas are sort of unique to south east Texas and are better compared to swamps with a bottom that very rarely dries out. I have a skid set up on the mower so that if it gets to bad, the mower sinks down to the skids and slides thru the muck. I use a 4 wheel drive vehicle with tracks to pull the mower.
I don't do this full time, just part time. All of it is for commercial companies, no residential.
