This is a question for the new Jersey people. When do you guys start cutting lawns or when does the grass actually start growing. In a few weeks or a month any specific date or time it usually comes? Cuz as the weather gets better i am anxious to get out there. Thanks

The grass will grow when the soil temp is right. I forget what temperature it has to be I would think 62 degrees but someone else will know. A good guess is end of March. Bluegrass will take longer-Harry

On a 20 year average, I usually beging the third week in April. These are regular lawns without fertilizer......... You could start the first week with a cleanup and cut just to level the lawn, though.

For the past two years I have found April 15 to be a general start date.
Every year is different due to crazy march weather. For instance, last weeks average temperature was probably around 50, while this week it has been around 40.
Looking at my past accounts, I started most on April 18th and a few on April 24 last year. A lot also depends on the type of grass. The zoysia, not sure of the spelling, won't start growing till much later than the fescues lawns that I cut.
Someone else mentioned about fertilizer. If they get round the year treatments chances are you have to show up a little earlier, again dependent mostly on rain and temps.
