Ok, I'm seroiusly considering the Husqvarna CZ4815 with a Kaw engine or the CZ4817 with a Kohler engine. Both come with baggers, look like the same machine. The 15HP Kaw is $300 more. price is on New (dealer got them late fall 2003), 2 yr warranty starts day of purchase. $3800 for Kaw, $3500 for Kohler. Kaw is a twin cyl., would that be quieter? Am i losing any tip speed with 2 HP less?
Please help, i would like to get a ZTR without paying $6500 for one.
Please comment if you have either of these machines.

I don't have Huskies, but I have a lot of Kawi engines on stuff in the garage.I can tell you they are worth the $ 300.00 difference over the Kohler.Iwould take a Briggs before I'd take a Kohler anyway..JMO...

Tip speed is determined by engine RPM, you can adjust either motor up or down. Both are probably good motors, I 've had good luck with both brands but not those specific engines.

It seems to me that 15hp on a 48'' deck is allittle underpowered.

We have a 14hp Kohler and a 15hp Kaw. Both are good running engines. The Kohler is a b***h to start on cold mornings. The kaw always starts easy. I would definitely buy the kaw.

Bump to the top
Was hoping for more opinions. I can get a Gravely ZT2148 for $4100. Would this be a better option? The gravely does not come with a bagger.

specialtylc .Your kohler needs attention. It shouldn't be hard to start. the choke is probably not closing all the way.

Been like that since day one . Was checked by dealer several times. Biggest problem is just hard to get it to spin fast enough with pull rope. Still like the Kaw. twin lots better.

I had a Husky 6126 with an EFI Kohler... i put 30 hours on it and went through 2 hydro pumps. I bought it cause I got a good deal on it (I worked at the Husky Dealer at the time). It was nothin but trouble, I lost 1200 bucks on the deal. As far as I know Husky doesn't even make thier own zero turns.... I bought a walker... much more $ but by the time you put a bagger on a zero, you are at about the same price. I am very happy with my walker! Just my two cents.

So, I guess the votes are in: and the Kaw would be the better engine? I am going to ride them this weekend and see what I like, otherwise it's back to the drawing board. If I don't like these, I will be looking at the Gravely ZT2148($4099), and ZT2352($4499), or the Exmark 20HP,52" Laser ?ct? ($5499).

The only good part of those mowers would be the engine....
Not a fan of Husky mowers at all.
