I Just Wondered if anybody out there has seen maybe a competitor or whatever with a really catchy name for their business. I figured prime seasons indicated a business with purpose 4 seasons out of the year. Make sense to you or is it kinda goofy?

Your choice and explanation sound good. Check out the phone directory for some different areas and you will find a bunch of names.
I notice you are an engineer also - did ya go to da Tech?

One here in town called "Lawn Enforcement" Ours is GrassRoots Lawn Care (we live in a small town). I originally wanted to name our business "Grass Holes" but was persuaded otherwise... back then I was under the influence of some other type of grass.
----------
Mike Reynolds,
GrassRoots Lawn Care, Florida

Mine is 4-Seasons Lawn Care, kinda means we do it all year, takes the guess work out of the customers mind and makes it easier to sell year rounders!
Homer

Blast, you people are clever. I must have rejected a thousand names before settling on using my own name for the business. Still, you folks make me want to head back to the drawing board... =)
-TGC

Lawnicure was my company name. Lawnicure sounds like manicure and manicure is a great term for a "maicured lawn"

I've heard Grounds Control, Turf Works, Clean Cut, Custom Lawns, Green Acres, First Choice, Pro Mow. I am about to change my name to Abel Lawns and Landscapes. Abel is my last name.
one that caught my attention was LAWN ENFORCMENT.I think it is off duty cops....
Personally, I think all the "cute" names are a bunch of yuppie oriented BS. Sorry to offend anyone but I'm old enough to think that a person can do lots worse than hang their name on their work. Nadeau Lawn & Landscape here.

The Lawn Company is the name of my business. When your lawn needs a little TLC. Simple, and no confusion as to what I do.

How bout "PICTURE PERFECT LAWNS"? I thought it would be neat when your magnetic signs had a picture of a lush green lawn framed out in an antique brass frame.
Homer
Both of these were for companys that did instalation, not maintenance. I thought they were pretty neat. "Blades and Blossom's" and "Blooming Crazy". Have also seen "Down to Earth".

It's interesting how quickly positive/negative sentiments become attached to a name.
i.e. Cleen Cut: Good business name, but we had a guy in our area named that and he was such a dweeb with poor equipment that name is ruined here now.
I would name your business after your own name if you plan on staying small and maybe a "catchier" name if your growth plans are ambitious.
Regardless, your name will will develop its own connotations based on how you run your company, not on the name wording.
I agree with you Lazer. I think your personal name in your business name appeals to a lot of people, in residential for sure. And there are always some that think your rinky dink outfit because of it. In commercial work I think it may effect you a good bit more. You only have one chance at a first impression. But after you've been around a while your work is what they talk about not your name.

again on the legal side, we have one called "Lawn and Order". For more effect, he has a police badge painted between the two words.
My favorite thing is a company that has a giant "budweiser" sticker plastered on the front of the dump body over his cab. I don't think he even has the truck lettered with anything else. Wouldn't you love to see that pulling up to your house every monday to cut your lawn. Sure makes a "GREAT" first impression though..........
steveair

Edited by: steveair

I am just getting started in the business. I search the Yellow pages for the word "Lawn" and could go to different cities and get names of Lawn Care, Lawn Service, Landscaping or whatever name catagory I wanted to search for. After looking at probably a thousand names I decided to go with my name. My name is Johnny J. Jones, Jr. Many people have called me JJ but Johnny is what I went by. So I decided to use the name "JJ's Lawn Service." There was no business by that name in my area listed in the phone book.
----------
Johnny Jay
Gave my co. name alot of thought & tried lots of possibilities. Came up with YardSmith to give image of skilled craftsmen like blacksmiths & silversmiths that were the best at what they did.
Around here we have too many R&L mowing, J&J, CRT, R&R, etc. types. One that was real big was "9 yards- we go the whole 9 yds".
Also have Turf Doctor, Mother Earth lawn care for the environmental freaks who want to be dumb-a** earth friendly & compliant, etc. Also lots of last names like Rex's, Small's, Tuttle's, & Magee's lawn care. Up north of us is Yardmasters in Cleveland-real big bunch.
----------
Smitty ô¿ô
Only In America Lawn Service was one I've seen recently. Thought that was pretty clever. Used to be a guy around here that went by the name Oasis, which I liked quite a bit. I don't think he made it, though. Master Lanscapes is a very big business out here, too. Always thought that name was a bit ... conceited? :)
I'll keep my eyes peeled for more. Living in the central coast of California means lots and lots of competition to keep an eye on; thankfully it's mostly friendly... ;)
-TGC

I think that a family name on a business is not bad at all. I work for a company called Prevette Lanscaping, Inc. and we do more business then we can keep up with. Some of the names are cool but others get too cheesy.

One company around here is called Greenleaf landscape. The name is the owners last name.
He has 4 different shops and is the biggest in NJ. Who says you can't use your last name if you plan to get big. Its all really up to how far you want to go and how hard you want to work. Aldo 1 is also a guys last name the Aldo part anyway.
