I went to a welder today who I have used before and usually has very fair prices. I wanted a box made that would be 5ft long 18 inches deep. I wanted to put it about 3ft above the deck and have it be around 18inches deep. He said it would be around 350$ to do. Do you think this is overpriced?

Not a bad price, but whats really important is the quality of the work and the finished product.

THAT IS A LOT FOR THAT . DO YOU KNOW HOW TO WELD??
IF YOU DO GO TO A STEEL SHOP AND ASK THEM WHAT WILL THE
STEEL RUN YOU ..YOU GAN GET THE STEEL FOR AROUND $150-$220
I MADE ONE FOR A GUY I KNOW HE GOT A WELDER AT WAL-MART
FOR $100-$110 WORKS GOOD FOR MOST JOB'S

It could be a little high but it depends on the material, design, and how well it is made. I would use aluminum if I was to do another. I paid $250.00 for steel box 10 years ago thats 24"x24"x84".......If you figure the welders labor at $60.00 per hour,3 hours, its probley not a bad price.

I just had a 5' x 18" mesh basket and a little toungue box built and welded on cost 630$....a new basket was going to be 350$, wouldn't have been as well built, and it would be bolted instead of welded on.......these racks are so strong I can't believe it.....may be alittle over priced, but I am very happy with the work.....
