View Full Version : Who Hates Winter?
Indiana

Sunday morning we woke up to 3" of snow.
I thought "AUGHHH!!!"
Then I watched the news and saw that the whole week it was going to be in the thirties as a high.
I really hate winter. I get so board with sitting around and thinking about all the things I want to do. I don't live to mow, but I really enjoy it.
Anybody else hate winter?

I hate it also we have about 1.5ft of snow in Grand Rapids, MI. I still have about 25 clean ups left. The weather is not helping

I love snow! Unfortunately, I'm about a 100 miles north of Toronto vacationing. According to the weather folks, both crossings back into the US are closed because of 3 - 5 feet of snow. It's great that I have until Saturday for the roads to get clear. Thank God for internet access at the public library.

I got an AOL Instant Message from a member in Buffalo saying at about 11:30 PM they had already gotten 41" of snow in 24 hours and was taking a quick nap for 3 hours. That is a lot of snow, so good luck getting back home. :)

I also dislike winter; I am a spring-summer person myself. Not to mention I have plenty of clean-up work to do still. We just got our first covering of snow here in Akron, OH. You can still see blades of grass peeking out; but it's still coming down and cold.
Alot of trees held onto their leaves longer than usual this year.

I love the changing of the seasons. It gives me something to look forward to. Easy solution to your hating snow, buy a plow and you'll be sening green all year round.

I'm not a winter lover myself. But it is nice to finally be able to take a break, get to spend time with my kids and oh yes I guess my wife too. We still have a little more work to do, some light yard clean-up, remove some shrubs for a few customers, remove mulch bed due to a spore problem that can only be done once it is cold since they go dormant and replace with river stone. I don't mind the snow but hate the cold temps. My favorite saying is "I can always wipe the sweat away but you can't wipe the cold away" , know what I mean!

I have 2 opinions of winter. I like it because i get to go snowboarding, but i dont like it because i am to young to get my licence to snow plowing isnt an option, but it is nice to have a break from everything.
Winter is one of the main reasons we moved from Cincinnati to southwest FL. There is nothing like living in shorts and t-shirts, and picking fresh citrus right from the tree and eating it. Also needed to get away from family too. Too much bs. We have some cool mornings here but you know it won't last. It's warm in summer here but it was warm up north in summer too. All in all we like it here so far. We are going to Cincinnati for a visit at the end of this month. One week up there should be enough for us!

I agree...first you need enough snow to plow. Since I have lived in Akron,OH; I haven't seen enough snow accumulation to make it worth the investment. Now Erie, PA where I used to live, yeah. Or even if I live up in the East suburbs of Cleveland...

I don't hate snow. I absolutely hate the cold though. We will be moving to N.C. in 2002 and one of the reasons we are moving is to get to a slightly warmer winter climate. Winters in my part of MD don't typically get more than 2 feet of snow a winter but we do get treated to the cold temps.
I'm not much on the cold here in Vermont, but I DO live the snow. WAY more money in plowing than there is in mowing and I just flat enjoy it more as well.

I hate winter too. It doesnt snow enough around here to invest in a plow. I do like the snow though. I just hate cold wet or cold dry weather. Fall is needed for the income from leaves. Luckily our winter are not that long. I envy people who live in FLa

I was sitting in my office at work today looking at a Steiner book thinking about buying one and setting it up for snow removal, the weather reports on the news were saying how much snow was falling, I could count the money. Then reality set in when I walked outside to go home. The car had a foot of snow on it, could barely see across the parking lot. Now I'm thinking it would be much better to be sitting infront of my monitor beside the stove. I have always hated Winter, I have snowmobiles to make it a little better but I still hate it. Oh well I still want a Steiner so I might as welll get my winter clothes out and get out there.

I don't like winter real well, my wife loves it because she gets to see more of me, when I'm not on the computer. Got my fill of snow growing up on the farm. Too many days cutting wood, feeding all the livestock in freezing weather. Besides down here we get mostly rain and cold, not snow like the northern states. They close schools for a dusting, then you stuck with the kids saying "I don't have anything to do".

Plowing is easier money than mowing. All you need is a truck & plow, or snowblower, etc. You don't need:
truck
trailer
big mower
med. mower
push mower
weedeaters
blowers
rakes
shovels
trimmer line
gas cans
etc. etc. etc.
I loved winter before because I ski/snowboard, now I love it also because it's a good money maker.
Also, it can take all that equip. & about 15-20 minutes just to make $25 (average). With a truck & plow I make $25 in less than 3 minutes & go to the next one :)

Hey Eric and All: Yep the snow up here is bad. Buffalo washit the hardest... Where I'm at, Collingwood, Ont. we are getting pounded as I type. To get on the Internet, I have to drive to the public library and we are at almost whiteout conditions. I LOVE IT! Perhaps I can wrangle this snow storm into another week in Canada. Yippee!

I love winter..actually I like all seasons. A Change is good.
I can say that i'm not a real big fan of hot and humid weather that we get here in the summer. We usually get at least 2 decent snowfalls a year here. One of the things i especially enjoy doing, is cutting a few doughnuts in my Silverado at my friend's business's parking lot. They don't mind..heck they've been know to do it, too. There's nothing wrong with doing it just as long as you do it in an open parking lot..away from other cars and buildings. It's a big thing here in my small town for people to get together in the old Walmart parking lot to do some doughnuts. You'll see people of all ages doing it..that's the funny thing. It kind of got out of hand last winter though..i actually saw some idiots doing it in the middle of the 4 lane highway..came close to hitting some cars coming down the highway!

Winter is better than the humid summers here in SE michigan. I dont mind it unless it gets way below freezing temps. and then having to go out at nightime to work in the snow.

Winter is here in N.E. Wisconsin but by the weekend it will be in the mid 40's. The only month I really don't care for is Feb. because its ccccooooolllldddd. Otherwise I enjoy the break and am recharged for another year of cutting.

I've always loved winter, I enjoy all 4 seasons for different reasons. I also enjoy plowing more than cutting and look forward to it after a long, tiring cutting season.
dhicks: I heard Blue Mountain is open already. My partner and I have season's passes and are looking forward to strapping on the skis. Picked myself up a pair of Atomic Race 10.26's at the Toronto Ski Show for $150! Can't wait to use 'em.

I don't mind winter as long as we get and keep 6"-12" of snow on the ground, keeping the frost to about 2'.When it's an open winter the frost goes down 5'-6' and we start to thaw water lines (75 one year).Jackhammering and digging all day is the part of winter I hate.Snow is no big deal I can move it if it bothers me.
