View Full Version : interesting brush removal

hey guys, lastnight i gave an unusual estimate. i have to remove two trees (looks like a very overgrown weed) that are thin and short, 2 azalias that are about 4 or 5 feet tall, and about 9 bushes. i do not have to remove any of the stumps, just cut as short as possible. access is no problem. the hardest part of this estimate was figuring out how long it will take me. i will have a helper, will be using chain saws and pole saws. my question is, having a two man crew with power tools how long will it be to do this job assuming i am just putting everything in a big pile.
Hard to tell....
If one is using the chainsaw to cut-off the limbs and the other is pulling them away and just piling in another location I would say 4 man-hours, or two hours for you and your helper. This doesn't include travel time, preperation, or clean-up. Just doing the work.

This also depends on where the pile is. it is is close to the azalias and the spindly tree I would say 4 hours total including drive time and cleanup. I would bill for 6 man hours though just incase of an underjudgement.

6 HOURS???? seriously?

sounds about right at 6 hours to me. without seeing the actual site, I'd figure on about 20 minutes per bush, and about 30 minutes per small tree, so about 280 minutes. Then adding in drive and dump charge, round about 6 hours. This is all without seeing it though, so it is a little hard to do.
Price would be between $280 and $360, or more if site was seen and hectic for some reason.
cutting just to the ground should be fairly simple, and drag away, but like I said, without seeing it, I'd bid high just in case.

Yea I say 3 man hours also. :30 min to cut down 2 trees and Azaleas :30 min to remove 9 bushes :30 min to clean up ( if your just piling ) Thats 1:30 x 2 people = 3:00

2 man hours. use the pole saw with a new chain. one can chop them down, one can haul them into a pile.

thanks for the help guys, i will actually be loading it not leaving in a pile but i know that that would vary on what its being put on, location of the vehicle etc etc, so i just wanted to get your guys advice on piling near the site. all of the bushes are tangled together, i was thinking more along the lines of 9 hours. but hopefully i will be off.

What lawnman-scot said.
9 hours is way over unless your gonna do a lot of sitting.
You should be able to cut that stuff down in just minutes. Dragging will take just a little bit with 2 high steppers.
Sounds high to me, but I can not see the job. Maybe 1min per to cut. Thats 13 min. Then load and haul maybe 2hours.

well that sounds good to me. hopefully it wont take me 9 hours (that was 9 man hours btw). these bushes are 4-6 feet high remember. trees are about 10-15 feet i guess
