Just started back recently. I am working full time plus maintaining my few lawn accts on evenings and weekends. Got a referral for a lady from a regular customer - cool - I like referrals. I explain to her that the price is for a standard mow job and extras are extra. Ok. Go, do her yard, she say's "fertilize and trim that bush". I fertilize and trim the bush. I'm done. She comes out and asks can I give you $5 extra for the other work? I say, no... here's your bill. (I charged her $15 extra - VERY LITTLE). She has a C-O-W. "My last guy did everything for one price". I said, "You mean the guy that doesn't work here anymore"? She grumbles and writes a check, explaining that she's on a fixed income (there is a Mercedes suv and a new VW in the driveway). I wish her the best of luck finding someone who can afford to work for free.
That's when I thought of the All-you-can-eat-buffet LAWN SERVICE. One price for everything you can think of for me to do while I'm here!
AAaaaaahhhhh..... welcome back! :p

Tell her you will trim that bush for free if she will get out and wash your truck and mowers for nothing as well.

I was just happy she didn't want a foot rub or something.

We had a customer like that a year or so ago. She went to our church and always brought up the fixed income; widow; too busy for you, I'm ministering to people in my home now stuff. She always wanted something for nothing and told us we should be serving her, not the other way around (what??). It was like she expected a "favor" for being a Christian too.
Long story short.....we told her she would be better served to find someone who could serve her better.....and we "fired" her. Even deleted her from our database.
Life is TOO short. There is plenty of turf out there to have to deal with that kind of stuff.

dude, i've seen it all. "we are on a fixed income (a jaguar and a mercedes in the garage) and we won't be here most of the summer, we spend summers at our home at the beach..." i had a lady from florida, thought i was gonna cut the lawn, and trim the bushes all for $15. "well, that's what they do in florida."

It's the little pita ones that I find funny.
Like if you have a lawn for $30 and they want to pay you $27.50
And yup theres always a new car in the drive and they have 2 or 3 tennants living in the house illegaly.
But there broke and on a fixed income..
And they deserve a break cause they are special.
God there such pitas.
I won't work for them at all.

I had a customer that couldn't afford my prices because he is "retired."
He's a retired VP from a very large company, and he could afford to have me there 40 hours a week if he wasn't such a cheapskate.
big place like chicago you come accoss every kind...after a while you get a feel for about people ....when one asks you how much the first words out there mouth...its <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_1_102.gif' border=0></a> amigo get somebody else.
cheapskates are always the biggest pain in the asses to.
