View Full Version : Gravely 260z
I AM NOT A COMMERCIAL MOWER BUT I MOW ABOUT 3.5 ACRES OF MY OWN. I,M GETTING READY TO SELL MY 6FT. FINISHING MOWER AND BUY A GRAVELY 260Z AT A LOCAL DEALER. WHEN I WENT TO LOOK AT THE GRAVELYS THIS SPRING THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT GRAVELY HAD ADDED A 27 HP DIATSHU DIESEL AS AN ENGINE OPTION. UNTIL THEN I HAD PLANNED ON BUYING THE 260Z WITH THE 27 HP LIQUID COOLED KAWASAKI. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THE DIESEL IS A BETTER WAY TO GO. DOES THE DIESEL HAVE MORE LUGGING POWER IN THICK WET GRASS. I HAD READ SOMEPLACE IN THIS FORUM THAT THE DIESELS HAVE LESS POWER IF COMPARED TO A GAS ENGINE WITH THE SAME HP. ANY THOUGHTS OUT THERE.

Diesel in general will last longer than gas but as you don't cut commercially any quality mower will last along time just having to cut 3.5 acres a week. How much more is the diesel? AND do you want to spend MORE? You could easily get away with an air cooled engine as well as the max hrs per week would be 3 and thats even using the mower as a go-kart. The normal air cooled engine will run 1,000- 1,500 hrs.
3 hrs week x 30 weeks = 90 hrs year / 1500 = 10-15 yrs of use
YOU WILL WANT TO GET RID OF T BY THEN JUST TO GET A NEW TOY!!!!:p Joel

A 27hp gas motor, well a 27hp diesel is like 32hp gas.

The diesel is overkill....bigtime. Just go with a gas, as you're never going to wear it out, anyway.
The 27 HP diesel is $9995 and the 27 HP Kaw. LC is $8895

The gas is going to be quicker and much more responsive, with the weight difference. What IS the total weight difference of the two machines?
