just wanted to know if anyone put grease on the ball
of the trailer hitch i've been running mine dry for sometime
with no problems just wonderd if it was a good idea
and if so what type of grease
We grease certain trailer balls. Just the ones that have screw latches. The flip latches we don't usually bother with. It is something that doen't have to be done but a couple times a summer for us. We just do it to keep the balls from wearing out.

We only grease the ones that have the same truck/trailer combo all summer.
Most of them we're using a different truck/trailer combinations and the grease messy.

like the jumping things
We changed all of our trailers to pintle type hitches, I feel that they are much safer and that way every truck will have the right hitch on it and would not have to change every time you change trailers. I think that the pintle types are much more heavier and every time you hook up you don't have to worry about the hitch coming loose or popping up. Just My Two Cents,

Pintles are the way to go,I wish I had gotten one when I bought mine last year.

Im not exactly sure what a pintle hitch is... is that the hitch that is just a oval and it just loops over a hook on the truck? If that is what im thinking of my friend has one on his chipper... he says its easier to attach but it has guve so when he stop you can really feel it moving.

A little more tongue weight will take care of the slop in the pintle hitch. Your correct on the description. I had a trailer like that and I'm thinking about going back to that hitch myself.

The trailer has a big round horizontal ring that attachs to a big vertial half ring on a truck that the top half comes down and closes to hold it. You can get a hitch for the truck that is a combination pintle hitch or open the top part and it's a ball hitch.

Pretty good thread. I had tears coming to my eyes. I don't know about you guys, but the more the balls are greased, the happier the hitch is.

I agree that the best option is to change over from ball and reciever to pintle hook and lunette ring system. Its easier on and off for sure. But as far as greasing your balls ( no pun intended) It will help a lot if you get a lot of use out of the trailer. If they're not greased, over time it wears out the inside of the reciever and a little off the ball everytime you turn with the trailer. That will give you a loose fit and take a lot of strength out of the reciever. You don't have to go crazy eith the grease, but make sure you get some up in the reciever. It will also keep your latch working smoothly.
Hope this helps!

I should say also i do use the pintle & ball combo
with i have one trialer that takes a ball and the other takes the pintle hitch
it sound like the teflon spray grease is the best way to go
since i guess that i would not be good to have alot on the pintle type hitch when i use it for that type of appliction
thank you for your replys and those funny bones
