What spindle grease does everyone use? Brand, weight?
It is time for me to restock and thought I would get
some feedback from you guys.

CRC Sta Plex Extreme Pressure grease. I've had to replace 2 wheel bearings and 1 spindle bearing in 7 years.

I use a high temperature Mobil lithium grease. I've replaced 1 spindle bearing in the past 16 seasons and that one had 3,000 hours on it and was just a bit loose, the other 2 are still good.

Penzoil Adhezolith. My regular supplier said that it had been pulled off the market, but the Penzoil distributor still had some $21.00CAN for 10 tubes. It's the only grease that I have found that stays in my spindles (Gravely walk behind).

I used Amsoil moly but have switched to cheaper Quaker State. I did't really see any benefit from the Amsoil.
Grease: everybody think about it,years ago machinery lasted many years using what ever grease was avalible
at the time, and equip.etc seem to last many years, today everybody has there own opion on what to use etc!!!I seem to think if we went back to the basic we would be farther ahead???

I buy a generic grease at Sams club, 24 tubes for $14 its a lithium base EP(?) NGLI#2(? from memory it may be different)the numbers on the tubes are the same as the $3 a tube name brand stuff.
Anybody else try Marine grease. I've used it for years and never lost a spindle. I use it because it doesn't leak out as fast, stays put longer. I figure if it works under water on boat trailers without washing out then it ought to work fine in my mowers.

I was a carpenter before I started my little company 6 years ago. I used to hear people say "They don't build houses like they used to". Well, there is a good reason they don't! I live in a region where there are a lot of old houses. They lean, they're weak, they're out of square and they fall down. The houses built today are stronger, stay level and square and are safer.
Machines are the same way. Sure today's mowers need special grease. But that is because the bearings are smaller, lighter and spin considerably faster than they ever have.
I have complained a lot about my Gravely in this forum. I have also worn out the ear of my local Gravely dealer. And he has agreed with most of what I've said. He told me (he has been selling Gravelys since the early 60's) that the deck that is on my Gravely is the same deck that they were using back in the early 70's. He said the deck worked fine back then. But he also said that the only people using this deck were old people who were cruising along at 2 mph and that the deck was never intended to cut grass at 6 and 7 mph.
The point I'm trying to make is machines today are faster, safer and better. But they do require that you take care of them. Spend the extra buck for the grease.

mobil lithium grease
I also like the Marine grease because of the sandy conditions. I can grease the unit and it doesn't end up coming out and collecting the sand around the bearings.
Just grease it according to the specs that come with your mower, and you should be ok.
