sluggish fisher plow

We recently purchased a 1988 GMC Pickup with a Fisher Speedcast Plow on it. When the truck is started and on high idle the plow lifts and turns reasonably well. When the truck cuts down to low idle the piston will start to raise until it meets the resistance of the plow and stops. It does the same thing if the plow is sitting on the ground and you try to turn it side to side. When you rev up the motor, then it will raise up and turn. This doesn't seem to work well when trying to plow and raise the plow at the same time. Do you have any input on what may be wrong? Pump? Controls?

Is this the Fisher with the fan-belt hydraulics?

The pump is worn. Our clutch-pumps will wear out every 5-8 years or so.

Try a new pump, if it is sluggish at the low end it is not as efficient as a new one. Also, is the engine idle rpm too slow. I had an engine driven pump on a 76 chevy 350 motor and you really needed to be on it to work it well. good Luck! Fisher is my brand.

My Fisher has done the same thing since day one.I was told that I could try changing pullys. New Meyers on the way.

This thing is a belt drive hydraulic. Even plowing, while driving along and trying to lift the plow is difficult at best. I was guessing a pump, how much do they run?

About $ 250 aftermarket. Not sure how much for a Fisher, Haven't had to buy one.

Here are two aftermarket parts sources. These aftermarket or OEM parts are built just like the parts used by the brand names. Some times the OEM parts are used and sold under the brand name.

I think thats right.

$125.00 is all our 14gpm Sunstrand pumps cost.

Most 4-6 gpm pumps are $80-100 or so.
