I was wondering basically what a "scrub" is? I am a new company in the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area, and I do not understand all of the lingo just yet. But, on the other hand, I do not want to burn bridges from the start because I did not understand something. All replies are greatly appreciated. Also, anyone from the area, shoot me a PM so that we may be able to do some networking. Thanks in advance!!

Thanks Team Gopher. I guess in some ways I am, and some ways, I am not.

No, my guess would be a troll, not a scrub.
Have a nice day.

Let's put it this way, no true professional is ever going to ask the question "am I a scrub".

Does that answer your question?

what if we changed the subject to ...

What is a true professional?
Really its the same question, just from a different angle.

This scrub stuff is getting very tiresome.

I dunno if you are a scrub or not. But being a scrub is not necessarily a bad thing always. I certainly started out in scrubby conditions and managed to build and improve my business over time. Starting out in the low end isn't always bad, as long as you continue to improve yourself and learn from your mistakes.

Not being a "scrub" is like being in love. you dont have to ask yourself or others you just know it. I think I read that on a fortune cookie.

I think it also makes a difference if you have the just starting out anything to get by until I can get better plan. Or if you got the anything to get by so I can by more beer forever plan, the latter being the scrub.

Why not just focus on growing you business to what you want it to be and not worry about the perceived scrub that others might think.

In appearance I would be considered a scrub. But I like it that way. I run a tight ship, one truck five employees. No signage on the truck. As a matter of fact I do no advertising at all, never have (word of mouth baby!). No uniforms aside from ball caps. Aside from a few backpack blowers I own no equipment, I rent what I need when I need it. I do quality work for high end residential customers that want things done right the first time. I have not lost a customer in four years (though I have "fired" a few, I don't have time for screwballs). I fly in under the radar & chuckle at the big boys that chuckle at my appearance. Scrub? Well, I do enjoy a liquid porkchop after work. You decide...........
