Which brand do you prefer? Why? Towing? Torque?

I would of picked Dodge but you didn't have that option. The 2500 can tow almost 11,000lbs witht he HEMI.

For me it's a 50-50 thing. I think Chevy has the best powertrain, at least in the gas end. I would rather have the 6.0 V8 over the 5.4 V8 and the 8.1 V8 over the V10. I like the Allsion tranny, too, even though I have heard good things about the new Ford tranny. Diesels are close, but I think you can do more with the Powerstroke.

I like the soild front axle of the Ford. Easy to bulk up, good for plowing. I like the looks of both, but give the edge to the Chevy just because I like the overall size and shape.

Ideally, put a solid front axle on my Chevy and you have the ideal truck.

I like Ford & Dodges because from my experience they hold a plow better than any chevy I owned except the older chevys with straight front axle that I had.

chevies are gawd awful ugly.
my ford does have some engine probs everynow and then, but thats because i bought the engine first year it was out.
in 03 ford had more torque and less hp,
now chevy has more in both areas, but in 07 ford is coming out with a new diesel, watch out ladies.
i can tow like 12,500 lbs with my 250, whoop

I am a GM guy through and through. I will have to agree, though. Those new Chevrolet and GMC trucks are as ugly as a mud fence!:D I have a 1988 and 1993. I love the ease of working on them. But the IFS in the 1993 sucks. No other way to put it.

Personally I won't buy a new truck. I would rather buy an old TBI and buld it the way I want it. Parts are cheap and readily available. You can buy and rebuild an '88-'94 GM truck for less than half of what a new one costs you.

A little while ago, I would have said GMC, thats what I had and used for 8 years. In febuary, I got a dodge 2500 CTD, now I will have to say DODGE 2500 with the CUMMINS motor!!!! Man I can not believe the power and tork this bad mamba jamba has. It toys with the work I do with it, and you can't beet the mileage per gallon either. :) :D

I still remember the Ford Super Duty commercial from a while back when the F-250 pulls the Chevrolet out of the water at the boat launch.

I don't know guys, I gotta go with Chevy, Competitors use fords for plowing and our guys are always pulling them out. Bad thing is there stuck in 6 inches of snow. Others have dogde's, need a ladder to get and try lifting a saw or other 100 pd piece of equip. that high to get the thing into the box. Takes two guys, like a dodge to do the work of one Chevy!! We are running all HD's 02 and newer!

To heck with towing a trailer - Go Isuzu NPR Turbo Diesel with a landscaper bed - dovetail ramp - flip down side rails - we have an older '87 model that we purchased wrecked very inexpensively. Rebuilt the damaged front end, painted it and built a bed for it over the winter 4 years ago and she is the best piece of equipment we have. Still averages 13 - 15 mpg at 250,000 miles. Now I will say this - when towing a dump trailer with 10 yards of mulch behind it (edging & pruning debris goes on the Isuzu), I wish I had a powerstroke! The Isuzu is sooooo maneuverable compared to a truck/trailer combo.

Well after having 4 FORDS BLOW UP around the 60,000 mile mark and every single one of them being weak as hell we got a 98 3/4 ton 4X4 chevy with the Vortec 350 and meyer snow plow. Let me tell you this is the roughest riding truck i have ever been in. But on the other hand we havent had a problem 1 with it. It now has 100,000 miles on it and just 2 years ago we got it with 40,000. The plow doesnt drop the nose one bit. It tow's anything we throw at it. When we tow my car trailor and my race car you dont even know its back there. CHEVY ALL THE WAY. Fords can blow me for all i care because thats all they have ever done is BLOW UP ON ME! No more FOUND ON ROAD DEAD or FIX OR REPAIR DAILY'S for me. <<<<<By the way this was all in good fun other than the fact I will never own another ford.

Well lets see, look at whos got the highest capacities.. Chevys the lowest out of the 3, last time I looked dodge was on top for hauling and towing capacities. And plowing with a new chevy HA forget it! Every chevy I saw this past season sank to the ground with any plow on it, my ram barely sags 2 inches. Chevy's more focused on ride quality and comfort and there Heavy Dutyness lacks because of it. I was a very brand loyal GM guy for years, but chevy failed me way to many times. I bought my 2003 ram with the cummins 6 months ago and I will never go back to GM again, you get alot more for your money with a dodge than a chevy, your just paying for the name. A few years ago when chevy actually made decent trucks I would have bought one over a dodge, but all there trucks are cheap plastic tonka toys now. So to answer your question, buy a Dodge or Ford they both make awesome trucks that will drag a Chevy to it's grave anyday.

That is funny - I was wondering when I looked at this thread! How things haved changed - ford with engine issues, dodge well it's a dodge, GM with a few improvement. And a fully loaded truck is 50-60K?

Lol....damn this is an old thread. Talk to the commercial guys in your area and see where they get the best service. Service is king, if you don't believe that, I will have your accounts tomorrow...lol...btw I drive an F250, year 2000 with 350,00 on the clock. Only trouble I have had are glowplugs and gp relays, very happy with it. Previous truck was an 2001 Chevrolet with a 8.1, outstanding truck except for the 8 mpg...towing or empty!
