So this is a long story, but I'll give you a short version. A guy called and asked for a few quotes. One of them was mowing. When I gave him his mowing quote ($45) he said, "We've always had it done for 30." He tried to bargain with me, but I held my ground.
Anyways, so we were doing the spring cleanup and he was complaining about weeds, etc. in his lawn. So I told him that it looked like it had been neglected for the past few years. And then THE TRUTH CAME OUT. He said "Well, we've only just moved here in the winter and this is what it looked like." What a #%@ dirty liar!
I didn't say anything because he hadn't paid me yet, but after he wrote the check I just got the heck out of there. I'm not working for that frikkin jerk anymore!

I think you were talking to a liberal. He really wasn't lying, I'll bet the previous house that he owned was where he was paying $30 so technically he had always had it done for $30.

Who cares if hes lying, most people lie in some way to try to get the best price on there lawn. All that matters is your making what you want $, and he's paying you on time.

I had a customer, priced his lawn last year, he told me he had been having it done for 50 bucks, but the guy was so busy that he wasn't showing up any more... I said OK, I'll do it once for 50 and let you know. The price became 60 after the first mow. Well, this year, when I contacted him, he is agreeable, though he said, "Same price 50 bucks, right?" and I'm saying, "Same as last year, 60 dollars."
So he calls the day before I'm gonna mow, it seems a couple of brothers knocked on his door, they did it for 40, and they'll be doing it now. Waddaya bet, he told them that I was charging 50, and they beat it? Them suckers gonna be busy this year at those prices. They can have it. $40 bucks, every other week. Wow.
If you haven't figured it out by now, this guy's a lawyer, a professional negotiator. (Translate--BS'er)
When he calls back, I'll be glad to give him this year's price. His account has been replaced by a doctor's lawn, cut weekly, a pleasure to work at. More money, too.

You got the lawn at the price you wanted. As long as he pays you, who cares if he is a liar?

I too think he was talking about his previous lawn. Me on the other hand, right when he slipped I would have asked him, "what do you mean, I thought that you said someone did it last year for $30?"

thats how people are, they lie about anything and everything to get the lowest price. When they find out you are charging the going rate, they will call again, they always do.

I would care, especially if he told me the check was in the mail.

I got a lawyer and he doesnt care what I charge. I am charging more than the guy last year and he hired me without seeing any of my work. $32 weekly and its about 1/6 of an acre.

Sorry I wasn't too clear. He DIDN'T take the mowing quote, only the spring cleanup. While we were doing the spring cleanup, is when I found out that he lied (or that I thought he lied).

How do you know what last years guy was getting? Taking the word of the lawyer, eh? Methinks he BS'ed you.
I'd still rather have my hundred dollar doctors lawn.
