I have a 6x12 open trailor, a 717 mini-z, and 133 riding mower, and all my other equipment that I pull with a nissan v6 kc Auto. It has to have 93 octane gas to pull it ok, but you know its back there. Also the gas mieage sux bigtime, about 13mpg. My next truck will be a v8, a large v8.

I would get a 3/4 ton myself but a lot of 1/2 ton pickups would do the job. Pulling the load is the easy part; stopping in emergency conditions is what really matters.
You could add the trailer weight and all of the equipment together that would give you a good start on which truck to buy.
In my experience a under powered pickup will consume more fuel than over powered pickup when loaded heavy.

Whatever you think you need, go up from that. A 3/4 ton is the smallest I would go with for any hauling or pulling. This also allows for expansion as your business grows. A diesel would be best, but it is your choice on Gas VS Diesel.

I guess I'll start browsing around for 3/4 ton and up trucks. A trip to the gas station has me wanting to convert totally to diesel also. Premium is nearly $2.00 per gallon.

You'll definetely be happier with a 3/4 ton. A 1/2 ton will pull it fine but load sway and stopping is SO much better with a 3/4 ton.
I also agree with the diesel. We have a 90 Dodge 250 Cummins and just bought a 93 Ford F250 with a 460 as a spare truck. The 460 still doesn't have the torque of the Cummins and gets 1/2 the mileage.
