This weed is growing in the front yard. It grows about twice as fast as our turf type tall fescue and it is a much lighter shade of green. So the only time that I don't notice it is when I just mowed the lawn. Our lawn is looking great and if I can get rid of these then it will look great all the time:)
Anyway, if this is something I can kill that is fine, if it is something that I have to bring in a professional I am fine with that too. If you would like more pictures let me know what you would like.
Thanks!
Ryan

Try Ortho Weed B Gon Spray for Lawns. I have used it before and have had great success with it, but for some reason...im thinking that Ortho might not work on that, but it might. Try it.

My guess is orchard grass too. Weed be gone won't help. There is no selective weed control that I know of.

If it is orchard grass what do I do? Do I attempt to pull it up by its roots? It is not concentrated in one particuliar area but rather dispersed everywhere so pulling it would be quite the chore. Is orchard grass an annual? It does not appear to be getting worse over time so I don't think that it is a spreading grass, is that correct?
Any other guesses? How could I find out for sure?
Thanks again,
Ryan

What about MSMA or Drive 75?? I know that's mainly for crab but it might be worth a shot. I'd try the MSMA first as the cost ~$10 vs $100 for a bottle is worth it. Make sure the temps are up (70's -80's but not too hot 90's) before using the MSMA as it likes warmth to work effectively.

I found this info on the web:
Herbicide with activity on Orchardgrass
Name Pre-control Post-control
clethodim 0 1
dichlobenil 1 0
diuron 3 0
glufosinate 0 1
glyphosate 0 1
hexazinone 3 3
norflurazon 2 0
pronamide 2 2
sethoxydim 0 1
sulfentrazone 1 0
terbacil 1 1
0 = not effective
1 = excellent control
2 = fair control
3 = poor control
So if I do in fact have orchardgrass, there are only a few chemicals that will help get rid of it. clethodim, glufosinate, glyphosate, sethoxydim, and terbacil.
I know that glyphosate is the active ingredient in Round Up which I do not want to use since it is not selective. Is anyone familiar with any of these other chemicals?

I am hopeful that someone has some experience with Orchard Grass and how to get rid of it.....

msma will work, but only spray the affected areas...also dimension in the spring has helped me in the past...also have heard of people using baking soda
Whatever it is, I don't think any of the "Broadleaf weedkillers" are selective enough to kill it and not kill the grass you want to keep. If the area is small enough you could kill everything in that small area and replant but I sure would not want to do that. It cannot hurt to use the WeedBGone or the Scotts Plus 2 or Scotts with "halt" fertilizers and just see what happens. None of those will hurt the grass you want to keep (unless you overdose it) and one of them just might kill the unwanted stuff. I guess I would try a test patch about a yard square or something where ever the bad stuff is worst and see what happens. It won't take any more than a week or so to find out.
On the other hand ... there are a lot of areas where I could only wish that your bad stuff was growing instead of dandelions and vine-like creeping stuff that smothers the grass. In many ways you should be glad you have it and it is mostly green!

Ryan,
Sorry, don't know what it's called, but I have that same type of weed growing in my St. Augustine lawn. I have been pulling up a few at a time whe i'm out waiting for the dog to do her business. It's only been a few weeks, but it's alost all gone now. The only ones that come back of course are the ones that I break off vs. get the root.
