When i shut it down it backfires...and ideas why

As a rule of thumb ALL of the current engines available will backfire. The only questions are how often and how severely will they backfire.

I'm going to guess that you have a twin cylinder engine. If so you may be shutting the engine off at idle. The twin cylinders tend to backfire much more often and more severely if you shut them off at idle rather than at 1/2 throttle.

If you are already shutting the unit off at 1/2 throttle I would recommend taking the unit back to your dealer for a through inspection.
