Need help with new sod

My sod looks like it has wheat or hay growing in it. It looks like some kind of sprout growing on the tip of the grass blade. Is this a weed I can fertilize?? My grass is nice and green and looks great besides this weed...

It sounds like annual bluegrass (poa annua) Not a whole lot you can do, the heat and drought of summer will tend to thin it out of your yard.
-Dont fertilize, this will encourage growth.
-Put down a preemergence in late,late summer(early fall) prior to germination and again in spring (check with your county for more precise times for your area)
-Aerify often, poa favors a compacted yard.

Try to learn to live with this weed..if you don't, it will drive you crazy!!!
