Where i am in va, You go to the county or city(town hall, or admin office) you are working and request a buisness liscense, they vary in cost depending on how much buisness you anticapate you will do, and yes everyone here has a mower in a pickup truck or a trailer, lol, doesnt every where, And as for taxes I have an accountant take care of that for me

Business is great in that area, it is the high rent district. Do quality work and you will go far in that area.

I operate in the Manassas, Centreville, Chantilly and some Gainesville areas. I just started in March full time and am slammed with work for myself and a helper. I cut grass on Thursdays and Fridays and do the landscaping and installs and other stuff Monday through Wedensday.
Let me know if you need any advice on the area when you get down here.
My minimum cuts are $35.00 except for two houses that just have a front and side yard to cut with no back yard grass. They are $25.00 each cut.
(and yes everyone here has a mower in a pickup truck or a trailer, lol) Isn't that the truth!!!

Do you think $35.00 for a starting price is standard for the rest of Northern Va? I'm only doing $25 for the smaller lawns but Im also only part time right now.

that is going to be a big price change for us bcause here in this part of ohio believe it or not mowing starts at $15 in my area and that is from Pro. Businesses the little kids they will mow for a starting price of $10 i don't know how they do it when it takes about half your earnings to fill up your truck and and to keep it filled and then all the gas for the mowers, trimmers and so on its insane how they can do that. We are very fair priced here and people still think we are high its just dumb here people want a service for almost free. So that fair starting price around there is $35 i'll remember that thanks for the info and i will check those sites out when i can
