bad mileagemy

My 94 chevy 3500 dump (diesel) is getting very bad fuel mileage. It is a 6.5 turbo with a 5 speed. It is useing twice the fuel as my 94 ford 7.3 turbo diesil. Are these things known for fuel consumptiom?
