Can you help me with what I need to be legal in minnesota?

Get a "certificate of assumed name" for your company name with the Minnesota Secretary of State. Check with local gov. about licensing issues. I didn't need one up here and believe your ok down there as well unless you're going to be doing fert, herb, pesticides or tree removal. Licensing is required for all those things. You'll need to get General Liability insurance also, some people try to sneak by without it but that's foolish.
Good luck, find a good dealer to work with for equipment as downtime sucks. (Just like all this rain...)

One thing I failed to mention, you don't need to get a "certificate of assumed name" if you use your own name as the business name such as "Tom Hanson Mowing" or something like that. Initials don't count as a name and would still require a certificate.
