alright, well heres the lowdown...

im putting in a new patio, its quite large, they also want their old deck ripped off and have a raised patio with steps from the raised patio to the level patio.

my question is how do i raise it? just add some boards, then the new patio on the sides, then dump 8inches of gravel in and compact it in 3inch intervals??? then add the raised bricks and compact again?

A raised patio is simply built up using retaining wall units. It can be as little as a few blocks.

Or as high as you want, with the correct materials.

Rex,

Do you have a close up of where the wall units 'touch' the siding in that patio? I'd love to hear more about your methods of raising a patio next to vinyl siding like that, if you care to share.

A retaining wall unit is simply a block , unit, which is used to build a segmental retaining wall unit. You can use Versa-Lok, Keystone or others.
