New sod & fertilizer

How long should I wait before I fertilize newly laid sod? I just had sod installed and I am wanting to call my fert company to resume service. Should I wait until after my first mow?

I would apply a starter fertilizer right away. This way your sod can get off on good start. In the meantime, I would take a soil sample and take it to the Johnson County extension center. There is one in Olathe off 135th.

New sod typically has it's share of fert already applied when you recieve it. My suggestion would be to wait a few weeks before applying.Starter fert is typically recomended but from the research I've done lately it really doesn't have much advantage over ordinary homeowner lawn ferts because the grass plants won't typically utilize the additional phosphate and potassium.
