TO SCHEDULE STAINING JOBS OR TELL CUSTOMERS WHEN
WE WILL BE AT THERE HOUSE. I USE http://www.INTELLICAST
.COM AND http://www.WEATHER.COM THE MOST. ANYONE OUT THERE
HAVE GOOD RADAR WEB SITES? MY CUSTOMERS CALL ME THE
WEATHERMAN SIMPLY BECAUSE I CAN READ A RADAR SCREEN.
I'M LOOKING FOR A RADAR SITE THAT SOME OF OUR LOCAL
TV STATIONS USE THAT SHOWS DETAIL DOWN TO THE STREET.

I've been using AWS WEATHERNET. You can download it and keep the temperature by your clock, get radar and weather alerts (had a lot of them today) and a 5 day forecast. I'll have to check out the other ones.

Us snow nuts at the snowplowing forum are obviously pretty fanatical about weather & we've had some good threads on it. Check out the threads & posts in this thread. From what I've heard the Weathertap.com site is worth it for radar.

It sounds like what you're looking for is street level mapping. Virtually all of the above named sites use data that is supplied by US government radar sites. The best resolution available from these sites is 1km (about 6/10 mile). Street level mapping is provided by the individual stations themselves with data derived from radar located at the station.

The reason street level mapping is not available on the net is it would take too many web pages to provide the information real-time that is required. It is easier to update 1km radar for a 100 mile area every 15 minutes.

Thanks for the info Richard. I figured the tv
guys had to hold something back from us weather
geeks to make us watch. Intellicast is my best
site. I'm checking it now to see if I can do some
clean ups this afternoon. Thanks to all who gave

I use http://www.weathertap.com. It is an aviation radar site that updates every 3-5 minutes. It is a paysite but I have found that it is worth it. Check it out, they have sample images. Oh yeah you can also animate the radar to show movement from the past 2-3 hours.

Weathertap uses the same US government radar sites and 1km resolution as Intellicast. The only difference is Weathertap unpdates their images every couple of minutes instead of 15 like Intellicast.

I am a staff meteorologist in the USN in Norfolk VA, and weathertap is what I use as a briefing tool at work in addition to local tv station radar displays which are both timely, and easy to read for all. Intellicast is my backup site. I typcially make my own forecasts from computer model data at various sites. Weathernet is one stop shopping site for the real weather Gekes like myself.
If you are interested in Climatic Data I recommend you do a search in your own state for your regional office. Offers some good precip data and so on.
Retiring after 20 years in March to do commercial lawncare, but will always be watching the sky.

The weather.com that Jeffex mentioned in the first post is the Weather Channel. They basically have the same info on their web site that they broadcast on TV, so you already know how unreliable that is.
