Ok I just got some nice flyers made up and I was thinking about where to put them? Door hangers are good because they go on the handle and normally stay, well where are you guys putting the flyers? I've always used hangers but desided on flyers for a bigger advertisement. Should i stick them in the door so they hang out some? I just don't want them all flying away. I did staple a business card to each so it gives it alittle more weight so that will help and the flyers are like a card stock, thicker then regular paper. Thanks for the help :)

Not really a good idea. First off, a lot of people don't like someone monkeying around with their car or going near it. They will not appreciate a flyer under their wipers.
Secondly, who do you even know who you are targeting? What kind of lawns? What area do these people even live?
Parking lots are way too broad. Instead specifically handpick the nice areas that you wish to work in, and target those homes. You'll have more success this way.
Now to answer your question, laying out flyers takes time, and to get a good success rate, you will need to lay out a lot of flyers. When we used to door to door, we used post it notes that we had printed up, and we stuck one to each front door. (much easier than flyers in my opinion) It worked decent, but like I said, you have to really lay out a lot to get the calls rolling in. We no longer need to door to door, we work off of mostly referrals.

and don't get discouraged if you don't get a call the first day. i am still getting calls from door hangers that i handed out over a month ago. what does this tell me? based off of my own personal actions i will only hang onto something like this if it has peaked my interest. i suspect it is the same for these people. it is just a matter of time before i make that call.
intial response wasnt that great - most likely due to timing but the residual seems to make up for it. i am looking forward to a much better response next year since i will do it in early spring.

I have found the typical response rate for door to door flyers about 10%...

wow, that's great. So if I put out a 1000 flyers we would get 100 calls? Amazing.

Ok but still where is the best place to put them at the houses? In the seam where the door meets the house?
I thought about the supermarket but like said above you don't know who your giving them to, I only target high scale homes due to the larger yards.

i used door hangers of course not all doors work - depending on handle style.
i also did flyers - printed double side and taped them right in the middle of the door. this works well on glass storm doors so there is no question that they will at least see the content when opening their door. i think it also works well so no matter where it lays you will see advertisement. one sided it just looks like another peice of paper. colored or not.

I'll use scotch tape (thats the clear one right?) this way it doesnt leave a mark. I don't know if the homes i'll go to would like tape that leaves marks on their doors.

Hi kc2006,
Just a thought, you can consider doing this on the weekends and knocking on doors to hand them to your potential customers. If they meet you, it could give you a better chance of getting the accounts. If they aren't there, leave them in the door maybe?

i am kind of against this myself. i think i have seen others post here too stating that but there are many ways to market. my take on doing that is.
1 - i am not yet that comfortable doing it.
2 - i know when i get a knock on the door nowadays there is only one reason. - solicitation. i don't care for it. lately a lot of curb painters and the funny thing is i NEED mine painted. but i always say no. just don't like anyone knockin on my door trying to sell me something. - anything even if i need it. if i want it bad enough i will seek it out.
but as i said people hang on to these hangers. i am still getting calls weeks after handing them out. now if i can just learn to answer my phone!!!!

Use temporary double sided sticky tape. Try the scrapbook section at the craft store or the craft isle in Walmart. (I scrapbook so I have more kinds of tape & glue than you could imagine)
The one with the red plastic casing with the duck on it is the best & cheapest. (I don't remember the brand name.) Doesn't leave a residue to aggravate the homeowner.
For me so far I get about three callbacks for every five hundred flyers. I roll them up and tape them to the mailbox. I seem to get a more immediate callbacks that way.
