View Full Version : Snapper Yard Cruiser
I'm looking for a ztr for residential use and would like some input. My local Snapper dealer has a 48" 18hp Kohler Yard Cruiser that is 5 months old for $3000. I feel like $2700 would buy it. The unit is a trade-in that was used 4 times to mow a 4+ acre property. It was traded for a bigger unit. Anybody have any experience with these? Is this a fair price? I need something for a 1.5 acre property and I can't justify spending $6000 for a commercial ztr even though it would last much longer. If you guys have any suggestions on other units that would fit my needs I would appreciate it.

I haven't had any experiance with Snapper. I haven't read any favorable things about them on this forum, but I know the older Snappers used to be built good.
I noticed in a magazine that Dixie Chopper is having a sale on the Estate model that is made using the same hydraulic system that their other mowers are made with. This model just doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the more expensive DC models. It is $1000 off and was listed for $4895. I reailize it's more money, but it should last you forever just mowing 1.5 acres.
You would be better off buying a used Commercial mower than any home owner machine. They will do a better job of cutting and last you longer if taken care of properly.
You have plenty of time to figure this out, so go look around and test them all out.

I agree with Eric.I owned one, don`t waste your money.I would buy a used commercial mower before I bought the Snapper.

I AM A DEALER FOR SNAPPER AND I THINK THEY SUCK. THEY ARE NOW GOING TO BE AVAILABLE IN WALMART WHERE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. EVERY SINGLE ONE I SELL IT SEEMS I SEE THE GUY BACK. ARE YOU LOOKING TO SIT DOWN? A LARGE WALKBEHIND MOWER (48 INCH+) WILL GET YOUR 1.5ACRE PROPERTY DONE FAIRLY QUICKLY WITHOUT BREAKING MUCH MORE THAN $4000. YOU CAN ALSO GET A VELKE ON THE BACK TO STAND ON. I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF THE VELKE OR PROSLIDE THOUGH BECAUSE IT WEARS COMPONENTS OUT FASTER. IT WORKS BETTER IF THE MACHINE IS A HYDRO NOT BELT DRIVE. DONT BUY ENCORE HYDROS THOUGH IVE SEEN SOME PRETTY BAD THINGS WITH THOSE. YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND THAT MACHINE PROBABLY IS WORTH 2700 FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOURSELF (RESIDENTIAL). REMEMBER THE GUYS ANSWERING YOU IN THE FORUM ARE USING EQUIPMENT THAT IS DESIGNED TO LAST FOR COMMERCIAL. WHEN THEY STARTED THERE COMPANY PROBABLY HAD SOMETHING LIKE YOU ARE LOOKING AT. IT BROKE DOWN CONTINUOUSLY. IT WASNT MADE FOR IT. GOOD LUCK.
