Walker Rider :)

06-21-2004, 08:39 PM
Walker, Scag or a Grasshopper. Best dang machines I have ever used.

06-21-2004, 08:43 PM
Now I have not personally used a Scag but I hear from a lot of LCO's around these parts that they don't like the cut of the Scag. Of course most of them use exmark now so that could be the difference

Same results here..The only dealer in town is scag, and i talked to one guy in there who only runs scag,,,,and he was saying he didnt like it either. OH WELL...My gravely sucks now too.

06-21-2004, 09:54 PM
My vote goes to eXmark.

Two thumbs up!

06-21-2004, 09:59 PM
I would have to say SCAG! Of course that's the only thing I have experience with. I do know some crews that have Exmark's and their cut is also top notch.

06-21-2004, 10:20 PM
Definitely a Bob-Cat, has the best quality of cut!!!!!!!!!

06-21-2004, 10:20 PM
I vote for Walker rider

06-21-2004, 10:32 PM
I vote exmark.
you should have made this a poll.

06-21-2004, 10:44 PM
doesnt anyone have a hustler

06-21-2004, 10:47 PM
I demoed a hustler and they dont cut as well as the other mowers. I have to say my exmark walk behind!

06-21-2004, 10:55 PM
I go with any mower with sharp blades and a level deck. I own and run eXmark and JD and have mowed with Dixie Chopper and Bad Boy, and they all mow good when set up. A Sears Craftsman with sharp blades and a level deck mows good too. You put dull blades and unlevel decks under a $10,000 mower and the result sucks.

06-21-2004, 11:03 PM
Walker Lover here :)

06-22-2004, 12:05 AM
John Deere mid mount ztrs with 7 Iron decks.

06-22-2004, 12:08 AM
7 Iron Deck with sharp blades is tough to beat.:)

06-22-2004, 12:08 AM
i have a JD 737 and a lesco 48 inch wb. the lesco cuts way better.

06-22-2004, 12:37 AM
I agree with Flex deck. Most machines cut good if they are set up right(proper pitch, sharp blades.etc.)I own by far the cheapest machine here(Bradley) and it cuts fine.

06-22-2004, 01:20 AM
Walker gets my vote! But like it has been said, every machine cuts great set up right and with sharp blades, otherwise they wouldn't be an option.

It's now official, TT 60, best cut . The thread can fizzle now.

Sorry guys....time to step aside for the New Toro's with Turbo Force Decks! LOL!

This latest technology is the new standard....can't dissagree until you have used one.

I know that you know that already though eh....:)

06-22-2004, 10:42 AM
my ferris is 3000zx has a very nice cut thanks to the suspension. if you all have not tried one it blows all other rigid ztrs out of the water

06-22-2004, 11:19 AM
scag! :gunsfirin exmark

06-22-2004, 01:20 PM
I have used Grasshoppers, Steiners, Scags, Toro's and I am currently using a Hustler and I will have to vote for my Hustler Mini Z.

06-22-2004, 03:45 PM
I'm very pleased with both my eXmark and my Ferris. Honestly they both do about the same. Of all of the lawns around here cut by LCO's, the ones using eXmark look best but none of them use Ferris but me (mine look like an eXmark cut). I would not narrow it down to any one machine. I use to think that my eXmark was the bomb, and i still do! but, there are other great mowers out there.

06-22-2004, 03:51 PM
Our scag cuts really bad. I mean BAD. Worst cutting mower we have ever owned. Bob-Cat and exmark give a great cut. Also our gravely was good to.

There are two polls on here now that you can vote on and I'll take the top two vote getters to make a final poll for best ZTR.

Poll Part 1 (http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75457)

Poll Part 2 (http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75463)

Good idea. I'll do that soon.

I did the ZTR polls first because I'm about to buy one and was curious about overall cut satisfaction. Of all the ones I've demo'd (and I've demo'd all the majors' newest models who have dealers reasonably close to me - Ferris, Scag, Deere, Grasshopper, Hustler, Exmark, Dixie, and Toro) I've been most impressed by the 7 Iron deck from Deere. Grasshopper's finished cut was equal to Deere's in normal conditions (grass was 5-6" tall) although all of them actually did a very decent job at somewhat fast mowing speeds.

However, in the heavy, wet stuff (over 10" tall and higher with a lot of dense undergrowth) it was Deere far and away better than all of them.

Yes, I was surprised too!

To be honest, there are a lot of features on all of the machines that I liked. But dealer support and quality of cut are my top concerns so I'm leaning toward either the Deere, the Hustler, or the Grasshopper as of right now.

The Hustler is leading the pack (by a very narrow margin) only because I can get a killer deal on a demo Super Z with only 50 hours on it - $6600 with full new warranty. All the others are in the mid $7k range.

The JD 7-Iron gets my vote!!!

06-25-2004, 09:24 AM
I go with Exmark.
