I was mowing the back yard of a customer and I went by this huge juck bush pile and nothing happened. Then I got ever closer the second time around and BOOM. I was attacked by a swarm of bees.... Total of stings was about 12 including 2 right in the lip. And Im still in alot of pain right now. I went to the ER and they gave me a vik. and 3 shots and sent me on my way.

OUCH! I feel your pain. Though, I'm highly allregic, so I would have been in the hospital a little longer. Hornets got me a few years back, chased me INTO the clients house, lol, and got me some more. My throat swelled up so fast, thankfully, the home-owner had some benadril, and it saved my life.

Elephantnest,

How can you possibly be in this business if you're allergic to bee stings? Aren't you risking your very life each time you start the mower?

I've been stung once in 18 months of doing this. My employee has worked for me for 3.5 months and he's been stung once.

I would just assume you're gonna get stung sooner or later in this industry.

I rarely get stung by bees or hornets I dunno why but dang that can be scary. When I was younger I remember chasing a ball into some brush and musta stumbled upon a nest and swarmed them up. Its not so much the stings at first its these dang bees jus swarming all over you, and of course you go running with your arms swinging.

I've been stung more than I care to remember. I was stung so much as a child by wasps, I had the poison built up in my system, and each sting I became more and more affected. Now, one wasp can make me go into anaphylactic shock. I am supposed to carry shots with me, but I just carry benadryl. (Which I need to get some more of tomorrow)

Last season i went over a nest that was underneath an old piece of 4x4.I noticed the swarm ditched my mower and ran. They got me about 6 times but it could have been a lot worse.

i like busting up bees and hornets and wasp with my trimmer, the husq does quite a job, but sometime i get carried away and try to chop them on the ground, and so i put a line in the grass, oops. its also fun swinging at them with a shovel, they make a *ping* sound. last time i was stung was when i was probably 11, and it was twice in the eyelid by two yellow jackets.

I was at a job the other day clearing out some debris and dead tree limbs in the back of my customers property. When I picked up a large limb, I lifted it upward and Wham! Nailed a nest. I got stung twice and my buddy got stung 3 times. Man was he mad. He got over it quick when I took him out for a few beers that night.

Man, haven't we ALL been there?

I could tell you a story about a ground nest and a bucket-truck outrigger... but I'll let you use your imagination to fill in the blanks.

One of the worst pains I have had in life, I was stung by a bumble bee on the inner forearm. to me it felt like someone ran a blade thru my arm. Even after the severe pain stopped it took two months to heal up. The center of the wound actually sunk in an looked like a Crater or something. I am very careful around bumble bee's..

When I was a kid, my brother knocked a bumble bee down to the patio. I thought it was dead, and not knowing any better, I walked over and picked it up. YOWZA! Right in the thumb! That was my first experience with anything biting me, and I thought the world just sucked. lol

I once got stung 6 years ago but nothing since. I ran a 21" over a ground nest. I ran right away but 2 got my leg then tons more chased (hunted) me down. Luckily my buddy's house was close, I had to jump in his pool. These bees or wasps were pissed, all told 15 times they got me!

I've never been attacked in my life. I alwyas figured I would see them and out run them or whatever. Do they really launch out after you and chase you around that fast? i guess i would have to just run to my truck and hide out.
What do you do then? Just wait for them to calm down and then go sprayem with some instant kill?

If you are stung before making it to the truck by anything except maybe a yellow jacket, you will probally go home for the rest of the day..and yes they will chase you...

What I hate is once they sting you all their friends can find you since they mark you with some sort of fermions. Iv been stung a few times the worse was like 6-8 years ago I was on a wb and bumped a rusty wheel barrel I took 14 stings what pissed me off was I ran like hell got well over 1000 feet away and 10 mins later I still got stung 2 more times while sitting in the cab of the truck recovering. That day I had 6 stings in the back of my right knee you want to talk about swelling and stiffness.

I have been stung once in three years. The time to be concerned is definitely during your trim edge pass when mowing and just about all the time with landscape work.

Hey,

I just found out I 'm allergic to bees. I was always the one to reach in and pull a nest out of a shrub bees stings never bothered me. So last week we were out trimming shrubs when I disrupted a nest got stung once on the leg, so I let them calm down and I went back got stung twice on the head, no big deal we kept trimming I felt a rash on my neck thinking it was just poison ivy we kept going. So we leave that job and go to the next I get out of the truck and one of my guys looks at me and said you don't look to good. My face had swelled up, I was covered in hives So i called a friend of mine who was working the paramedics truck he tells me to take some benidrill and then he asks were my location was I told him and he said we' ll be right there. So they show up at one of my customers house lights and sirens. they get out of the truck and took one look at me and said your f%&* up . So the y gave me a shot of epi and a shot of benidrill and I was fine 20 min later. Thank god my customer warn't home to see this and my batteries were dead in my digital camera so I have no pics.
