View Full Version : Rear ground clearance issue on a Super Z with the mini wheels?

Should I be overly concerned about the limited ground clearance the small wheels at the lower rear part of the Super Z?

They look like little wheelie bars and am not sure what purpose they serve. Is the unit so tipsy that it needs them to make sure you don't flip it over?

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a Super Z but am concerend about those wheels back there. They definitely limit the steepness of a ditch that you can cross perpendicularly.

are an added safety feature.

If you happen to pull the front wheels going up VERY steep hills,

The "wheelies" roll over the turf.

This means you don't tear the turf.

And

They limit how far the front wheels can come off the ground.

It has happened to me...pulling the front wheels,

On extreme angles going straight up a hill.

You can steer the machine going straight up a hill with the levers,

front end floating, with no problem...

I do not think the wheelie bars came into play, truthfully, I don't know,

Howver, it is confidence inspiring to have them lookin' after your

backside....

Not once have I considered my machine [Hustler Z]

tipsy...

Wheelie bars....are a good idea for any Z,

as they ALL are weight biased towards the rear.

Look at the new Hustler ATZ [all terrain z] also...

The ultimate in slope mowing with a Z.

limits clearance [crossing a ditch straight across] is the

Trailer hitch...

i have 3 super z , they dont even remotely try to come over backwards... i mow some pretty steep hills..just like captken said you can steer with the front wheels off the ground.

Pretty much out of the way.

Protected frame and bumper from damage.

when I have backed into curbs.

And when I have foolishly driven straight off of curbs.

You take excellent photos, what sort and size camera do you use?

BTW, This is a good thread, no crap, answers to sensible questions!

I demoed a Super Z last year, mighty machines, loved it. I'm glad you are going well with yours and using it to it's full abilities.

dunno why all Z's don't have the rear wheeley wheels actually, Hustler isn't afraid of over designing stuff where most others are.

Same goes for the cooling fans...great idea!

All the Super Z needs now is a turbo force deck! LOL! just kidding mate, couldn't resist!

Tony - I just demoed a super Z this week. The dealer said those wheels will be mandatory on new ZTRs in 2005. I think that was the year. He said Hustler went a head and started using them since it would be mandatory anyway.

Demo'd the same unit again today. Mowed great other than missing some clover and a puff of blue smoke at startup.

The wheels were not even an issue so I'm not concerned about them anymore.
