Tulips and Ivy?

I have a customer wanting me to build some rings around a couple trees. In the rings they want me to put down tulips bulbs and then some kind of ivy or something. Is this possible? Will the tulips be able to come up through ivy in the spring?

The tulips should have no problem coming up through the ivy. However, I would be careful about your planting depth and distance from the tree. Depending on the type of tree you may have some very shallow roots. Its never good to mess with those roots.

if you can, talk them into daffodils...tulips die out, lose flower after a few years, daffodils will propagate.

And the biggest plus of daffodils is that critters won't eat 'the bulbs unless they're starving (unlike tulip bulbs; which they relish).
