I have a friend in the JD business, and he can hook me up with a killer deal on a JD 797 w/ 72" deck for $9000.00. I have read that there are not a lot of JD fans out there, but around my parts JD is very very good. Is the equipment sub standard compared to others? Or concerns about service? I have had JD all my life, never had a problem....

First of all, that's not a bad price on the unit. Do some more shopping though and you might get even luckier. I found a new 777 for $7695 so you might be able to get into the mid $8k range with some comparison shopping.

As far as the unit goes, it should be awesome. I loved the 777 and 757 I demo'd and they cut excellently.

The only thing I might suggest is be sure you want a 72" deck. They are huge but they do cut nice.

Good luck. If you go with Deere, from my point of view, you won't regret it at all.

You'll be very happy with that 797, all you have to do is demo one and you'll be sold on them. I think 9000.00 is a killer deal.

JD is the best - My wife runs the 455, and I run the 595 - today we mowed 11 properties - 20 acres total - 35 miles windshield time = 6 hrs. I have a 1988 332 with 5000 hrs on it, and it is like new. JD builds a unit that lasts forever. Take care of the engine and you are good to go.

John Deere's reputation precedes itself.

Here is what my friend shot me to get started in the business.

(1)JD 797 w/ 72" deck
(1)JD 667 w/ 60" deck
(1)JD GS75 w/ 54" deck
(2)JD T105CLE String Trimmers
(2)JD BP60 Backpack Blower
(1) Felling FT-7E Trailer

All for $189.00 a month for 24, then goes to 9.99%. But if I pay everything off before then, no penalties. I have 2 contracts already an 82 condo complex and 20 gas stations...I just want to make sure my cuts will look as good if not (much) better.

You can count me as a Deere fan!:waving:

I run a 757 and it has been wonderful. Since you have good Deere dealers there, you can't go wrong. Dealer support is deciding factor for me since pretty much all the mowers available in my area are quality machines as well (Exmark, Hustler, etc.).

I feel like the old man here still running my Z665 /60" cut, 25 Kohler. Runs great just the wheel motors are weak. Will run it the rest of the year then hello new.
Talked to my dealer yesterday tells me that JD will be coming out with new models for 2005, including the diesel, we will see.

I you have good dealer ?? you will be in good shape for what ever your need will be in the future.

A lot of people do not like JD, and a lot of people do not like Dodge, etc, etc.

You will not go wrong buying a JD.:D

For the last two days i have been helping a buddy of mine out . I have gotten to use his turf tiger on several times. He also runs a John Deere 757.

My self i like my 727A over the turf tiger, it just seems to be a better fit.I think when it comes to the type of gear you, have too like what you use and feel comfortable about using it.:alien:

I have run John Deere equipment for 3 years and could not be more satisfied. I have two great dealers, one 5 and one 15 miles away. The Z-Trak mowers are some of the best around, bar none.

When I first started in this business I got the impression, after talking to many, many people, that JD mowers weren't even close to being the best anymore.I already owned 2 medium sized JD mowers, and they were great, but when it came time to purchase others I decided to get an Exmark and a Wright Sentar. Now these are pretty good machines but I wish I had ALL JD .They're just excellent, excellent mowers.

I personally won't own anything but JD equipment, but I have a long history with the company and dealer organization... I don't think you can go wrong with buying green.

In florida, eXmark (TORO of course), Hustler, Stander, Gravely, and KUBOTA rule...especially in highly competitive neighborhoods
JD is doing okay on the outskirt of cities especially its big tractors cutting large orange grooves and fields, expressways and on older LCO who still have big of the 80' memory of JD. Pretty much resting on laurel, not much incentive and things to galvanize younger folks into action.
Just what I see every day here. I don't see brand new JD Z running on million-dollar estate lawns, but eXmark, Hustler, Ferris, Stander and again TORO, they everywhere on trailers. my 2 cents
