View Full Version : What makes up a Masterchute?

Masterchute does not make a model to fit any John Deere Z-Trak so I want to make one myself. Does anyone know any specifics about it? My concern would be the motor mainly. I assume it is electric and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what kind of motor to use or any type of existing motor to use for the application. I assume the foot switch is a simple pedal hooked to a momentary switch to activate the chute.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No, I am interested in a Masterchute type design which is power operated. It's only $50 more than the Qwikchute and much more efficient thru the power operation. But, it's avalable for very few mowers is all.

I built one for my walkbehind. I used an electric window motor and it works great. The welding was the most expensive part.
How about you just buy one for another mower and modify it to fit the z-trak. The door is about the only thing custom betweeh applications.

Yes, DLCS, I thought about buying the existing unit and modifying it, but I would have nearly $300.00 sunk into it before I made or paid for any modifications to fit my mower.
As far as Tharrell's idea I was thinking along the same lines, but using a windshield wiper motor. It already has the back and forth action (for down and up on the mulch plate) and you could use a switch mounted to a foot pedal to operate it as long as you popped your foot off and on just right to stop it at top and bottom stroke. My only other thought would be if you could find an actual stepper motor (12 volt with a 90 degree swing) that would stop on it's own or a switch with a timmer potentiometer.
Appreciate the help though. Keep it coming.

Hey Tharrell, do you have any pictures of it so I can get some ideas?

You need to use a switch that will reverse the polarity of the motor. Check out my new thread, I just got a camera and I have at least one good pic uploaded now.

What is the thread title? I looked under -Discharge Blocker- and found no pics yet.
