I'm leaning toward to exmark instead of scag ztr, because of the price.
I was looking into 52" ztr to tackle some of my new vacant lot accounts.

Scag turf tiger is too expensive and i'm not sure about that the tiger cub 48" can handle such rough terrain.

But exmark has 52" with ok price. Less than scag. and also reputation.

So I decided to go with exmark, but Kohler engine?
I heard some good thing about kawasaki engine but nothing about kohler.
Does anyone have good or bad experience with either engine?
May be some comparison of ex and scag.

We have never had a Kawi go over 1,200 hours. On the other hand out Kohler on out lazer is at 1,600 hours and going very strong. Our Gravely went over 3,000 hours before we sold the mower and the Kohler was still going. Its all in what you have luck with. I can honestly say I hate the kawi's.

I have heard of more Kohler's blowing than I have Kawasaki's.

Yeah its just what ever you have the best luck with. Our kawi's wont go past 1,200 hours no matter how good of care we take on it. Now the 3,000+ hour kohler had 3 oil changes and 1 set of plugs. Thats it. Just kept going and going.

after getting a 27 kohlor new this year, probably will stick with kohlor from now on, great on gas, and quiet.

Kohler for me. I had a 61 scag tiger cub, 25 kaw. Scag bought it back and gave me a wildcat, 27 kohler. Basically the same machine, kohler feels like it has a ton more power, plus it's quiter, easier to start, and does slighlty better on gas. I know, not fair to compare a 25 to a 27 though...

your probably pretty close in h/p, if rumors are true, read somewhere, maybe here that kaw's are about 2 h/p underated. so that would make it 27 h/p.

I actually prefer Kawi's, but I just bought a Surfer with a 22 Kohler, go figure... I pray I can get 2000 hrs out of it.

We'll see............

The kohlers are easier to start?? I have a 44" exmark with the 17 kawasaki and you just have to just barely bump the key to make it start. My new 27 Kohler on my toro takes 5-8 seconds of grinding on the starter to get it to start. Any idea as what it could be??

My new 27 kohler starts as soon as you hit the key, and i have never had to choke it in the mornings, only had it for a few weeks now. The 25 kaw had to be choke every single time.

That was what I thought to, but the 27 has far more power than the 25. Maybe the 25 had something wrong with it?? It was on identical machines, so it should be a good comparison.

I would say talk with your Exmark dealer and have him get his sales rep to bring in the a demo of the exact same mower that you want to purchase, one with the Kohler, and one with the Kawa. Then demo them both on one of the accounts on your route before you make a decision. Find what works best in your situation.

Also, where in TX are you located? Climate could make a difference in your decision also.

Go with KAWI !!!

All the mowers listed below in my "equipment list" have KAWI. I won't take anything else. My Lazer HP has 1700 + hours on it and the KAWI is still rolling strong.

I've had good luck with both. The kawasaki is a bit harder to fire up in the morning.

Either one I love them both but if price is your sole guide then you will have to go Kohler. They are a bit cheaper cost wise and when you get to the 27s they are about 1000 dollars cheaper.

I dunno if you could make the 15 horse Kawasaki's any easier to start, my viking fire's up with ease.
